The CRL Rights Commission says regulating religion must be done by faith sector, starting with Christians, because one body cannot manage all religions. It stresses that self-regulation is not meant to replace criminal law, but to protect victims where the legal system fails. Citing cases like Omotoso case, the Commission says church silence, fragmentation and power imbalances leave victims, especially GBV victims, vulnerable. Self-regulation would allow ethical accountability in cases the law struggles to address.
