Eric, Requiring the Iranian delegation to attend the UN General Assembly virtually seems like an excellent idea and perhaps would have been the better course. Rather than merely imposing such restrictions, a more effective approach would be to deny visas to officials and agents of the Islamic Regime as was done in the case of Mahmoud Abbas an option already available under existing U.S. law. When ordinary Iranians are routinely denied the opportunity to obtain U.S. visas, extending that privilege to regime-affiliated individuals is difficult to justify. Moreover, these officials hardly need UNGA shopping trips to enjoy luxury goods, as many of their children and family members already live comfortably in the United States, enjoying freedoms and privileges denied to the Iranian people.
