That might be true, but I think there is a bit of confirmation bias in that observation. Logically, everyone who is still a liberal did not abandon liberalism of course. But many people have abandoned liberalism in the past few years.

to be fair they don’t actually specify what they’re sorry for. are they just sorry it makes them look cringe?

What I still don’t understand is: Trump’s first term was not that long ago, and it left a smoldering meteor crater on our society. Do some folks just not remember?

The problem is that there were four years of Biden after that, which also left a smoldering crater, and then we had to listen to Trump and Harris argue with each other over who would make a better smoldering crater. Voters had to listen to that and they didn’t like it.
