Ditching Red War as the basic campaign of the game was one of the all-time worst decisions Bungie has ever made.

Terrible decision to remove this. New players are now utterly bombarded with content. The last time I played, I'd log in and it would just auto start a DLC and I'm on some random planet with a random cutscene playing utterly confused.

When I say I wish d2 was an exploration driven game, this is what I mean

slowly limping your way away from near death and climbing a mountain while doing nothing? the music stockholmed you.

I hold Red War to a higher standard. I fell in love with the game because of it. I spent years in the game because Red War opened the world of Destiny 2 for me. Maybe it was different on launch, maybe something was changed for Forsaken release, I dunno. But I loved it. I miss it

Red war was bad that’s something we need to remember. Was it the worst or the worst destiny had been? No but the leveling was poor, the xp grind being rigged was terrible, and the actively list being rather short is still something og players know well.

As it should always be. The Red war and all the old expansions needs to come back, and should be free to play up to Final Shape so people can actually become invested in Destiny and not just be thrown into a half assed free to try experience. Must not be fun to start these days.

I played and rather liked the first destiny. But I’ll never play destiny 2 or 3 because they’ve made it impossible for new players to start and experience the story and make sense of it. I’ll never understand what on earth possessed them to strip out critical narrative content. Every time I’ve looked into how to jump into and play destiny 2 it’s a confusing mess and I go “ah fuck that, there’s better games”. This won’t improve with destiny 3, so they have near enough maxed out their audience, which will forever be limited to those who played through and stuck with destiny 2 to the end.

and thennn every mission after it sucked

I will NEVER forget how this made me feel and absolutely captivated me into the franchise. I spent HOURS upon HOURS on the wiki just learning stuff about the game because it was so interesting. and the music was so peak as well ahhhh

Losing content is the problem. It’s not just red war. Not being able to walk a new light through “everything” is the problem. The fact that we aren’t able to have a world of Warcraft expansion to expansion experience is the problem. I mean shit did warframe sunset campaigns? No. Bungie is just not doing themselves any favors and they are reaping the rewards years later.

we need this back

bungie might f up a lot but 2 things that always stay great are the skyboxes and the soundtrack

before destiny lost its soul… 😔

Red War was the closest Destiny came to having a real cinematic story.

Take me back to when D2 just came out and it was my only escape from my first semester in college. Simpler times

Is this an Iron Banner cutscene?

After Forsaken, it felt fine. It was a mess at launch, but not being able to go back and revisit it is a huge bummer, especially for new players who prefer to experience a story, instead of watching lore videos.

Yea and then they removed it all, made the experience horrible for new players. Why the hell can't I start at level 1 and play through the entire game at my leisure? New players get dumped into the latest expansion mission with no idea what's going on.

Genuinely miss this. I remember playing it for the first time (to me) it actually got me playing the game. To be fair, I stopped playing after the campaign cause I didn't know what to do next. But the campaign was good IMO.

Legit lost footage since bungie somehow cut that out of the game 2 years in its cycle.

Lot of people saying it was a bad idea to ditch this - they ditched it because they lost their lawsuit against a fan writer that they stole the story and art from. They publicly gaslit him about this and denied the accusations then lost the case because they clearly did steal it, and ended up settling under private terms to avoid the embarrassment of having to let court records show this and to try to stop their fans from finding out (which apparently worked based on this post's comments). Another fuck Luke Smith for good measure, for old times same.

I remember when that game had a story. I forget what happened..

this part had a very strong effect on me. I still think about it fairly regularly. such a shame the game became what it became, for better or for worse.

It's so depressing we can't ever play this again. Just gone forever since they deleted all the data too.

Yeah, when I first played D2 casually, I loved Red War. You can imagine how pissed I was when I found out they vaulted it after coming back five years later as a complete novice.

This just makes me depressed all over again on how far Bungie fucked over Destiny 2 lol 😢

Would love a Destiny 2 All Campaigns DLC. 😉

Nothing matches the power of that theme too.

Red war was ass. Sorry fuck your nostalgia. I was stuck with that campaign for like 8months to 1.5 years. Im glad they axed that shit

I love how so many people hated Destiny 2 vanilla even it came out but 7 years later it’s being treated as some golden era for the show?

Good ole days

Sucks that people just kept on shovelling money into Bungies' pocket with every bad decision and expansion in Destiny. I got Destiny 2 hoping they'd have enough money to do it properly this time, instead they doubled down and made profit focused slop.

Ahyes, the great nothing burger
