You can’t make this sh*t up — the insurance cartel just admitted the entire racket’s a scam. Cigna and Express Scripts literally released a press statement bragging about a new feature where you can bypass them and pay cash because it’s cheaper than their own “negotiated” prices. That’s like a bank announcing, “Good news, we’re letting you keep your own money now!” They’re so deep in their corporate delusion they think admitting robbery is innovation. The American healthcare system isn’t broken — it’s perfectly designed to fleece you, confuse you, and call it progress. Every politician who’s taken money from these crooks should be forced to pay hospital bills in full, cash only, just to see the hell they built.

As someone who works in medicine and knows the exact costs and prices of medical services, I can tell you that a lipid panel for instance costs $1 but Cigna says that it costs $300 so you feel good when your copay is only $60 for the $1 test.

Unpopular opinion, but insurance should be solely for catastrophic care. Medications should not be considered catastrophic in most cases.

Further proof that insurance is a scam... These massive conglomerates are all in bed together. They invest in each other, fix prices, rake in the profits, then further invest in one another. The BEST part, what they're doing is only "legal" because they fund most of Congress.

Always ask the cash pay price before giving up your insurance info. It will save you money in a lot of situations

Recently when I got a prescription filled they told me it would be $38 on my insurance counting toward my deductible, or $14 cash price. I chose the cash price.

Our entire model is built upon enabling people to pay the cash price for all bills. Large cancer cases as well as primary care visits.

Cigna, terrible employer too, from my mother's POV. She got out of the hospital/cardiology nursing and became an "account super". As they'd get rid of employees they just keep passing the work to the next agent. Heavy workloads for senior nurses. She retired and gave them the bird.

No different to keeping the car insurance out of a fender bender - except that we are an order of magnitude more expensive and less competitive in pricing.

Buy insurance in case you need it but pay cash for everything and the cash price won’t go toward your max out of pocket so if something does happen you can then pay the max out of pocket too

I met my deductible, they slowly kept increasing the limit so they’d never have to pay. Now I never meet my deductible. I have insurance that doesn’t pay anything. Tell me again why I have to have insurance?

Im cancelling my health insurance altogether. I’ll put the monthly premiums into a high yield savings account and let it accumulate, for if/when I need to use to it, I’ll gladly pay the discounted cash rates….and if I don’t.. I’ll actually have something to show for it. Imagine that. 🤯

Before life insurance we had house calls. The doctor came to see you in your own bed. He treated you with what was in his bag and a scrip for anything else. You paid cash and everyone was happy.

It’s true. My husband had a disc repair 10 months ago and his cash pay price as 30% of the quoted price with insurance. That’s what the insurance industry costs.

I don't know why ppl even have insurance. This has been the case for sooo long. I haven't had insurance the majority of my life. Cash prices used to be even cheaper prior to covid but for whatever reason they basically tripled afterwards

I’ll vouch that other health insurance companies are doing this too. An anti fungal insurance cost $90. Cash cost $68. This is nuts. Why are we being forced to buy RX insurance if cash is cheaper?
