I will challenge this a little bit. 2005: came in this country (US) with a degree in civil engineering from a uni from a country that No-one ever heard of and with excellent reading and writing English but sub-par speaking English. Got 4 interviews after sending more than 100 resumes out. Got my 1st eng position after 2 months in this foreign land where I knew no one. I've been working in this field ever since. Do I get to mingle after 5pm. with my colleagues? No. But what I can tell you is that if you bring the know-how and the dedication to the table, i promise you, you will be given opportunities that you wouldn't have dreamed of. I have led a number of once-in-a-life time types of projects that I could never have imagined. Why? Because you are part of a team, and that team wants to win. So if you got the "good," you get to play. Is it perfect? No. Not discounting what this guy is saying, but it is NOT as closed as what he is saying. Just my 2 cents.
