OMG! I think they're trying to destroy the nursing profession and put veteran nurses out of business, forcing them out of the field! Don't patients deserve the most seasoned, most skillful nurse to provide care for them and not the the winner of the "lowest bid" nurse?! Seasoned nurses should be paid their worth in gold and not have to compete with a new inexperienced nurse that bids the lowest on a patient to collect a check!

Jamaica has welcomed 43 nurses from Ghana as part of the health partnership between both countries. The nurses have expertise in areas such as emergency care, critical care, paediatrics, oncology, mental health and midwifery. They will be placed in public hospitals across Jamaica, including hospitals in the Western and South East regions and the University Hospital of the West Indies. The four-year agreement allows for up to 400 healthcare professionals from Ghana to support Jamaica’s health system. The partnership will also allow Jamaican and Ghanaian healthcare professionals to share knowledge and strengthen areas such as primary healthcare, health insurance and the management of chronic diseases.

On average, most people lose 1% of their muscle mass per year and 3% of their strength per year after age 50. It's even worse if you're inactive—strength drops by 4% annually in people who don't engage in resistance exercise! Strength training and a high protein intake can slow or mitigate age-related declines in muscle, and this is important. Nadda undertook a review of healthcare facilities and specialised services at Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) and its associated hospitals—Smt. Sucheta Kriplani Hospital (SSKH) and Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital (KSCH). The review covered key areas including patient care, paediatric and neonatal services, medical education, research, skill-based training and infrastructure development, with emphasis on enhancing institutional capacity to meet evolving healthcare needs. The ongoing expansion of KSCH will increase its capacity from 394 to 894 beds, ICU beds from 40 to 200, and Operation Theatres from 4 to 12, further strengthening tertiary and super-speciality paediatric services. The Minister visited the state-of-the-art Skill Lab at LHMC, which facilitates simulation-based clinical and surgical training, and the newly functional Augmented Level III-B Neonatal Care Centre at KSCH, equipped to provide advanced care to newborns. Shri Nadda stressed the importance of integrated and forward-looking planning, high standards of construction, timely completion of projects and simultaneous augmentation of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure that expanding infrastructure translates into stronger health services and better patient care. #HealthForAll

Muscle strength is arguably one of the most important predictors of healthspan and longevity—far more than muscle mass alone. Low muscle strength is associated with a 50% higher risk of early death. The good news is that strength can be regained at any age through resistance training, even in your 90s. One study showed that 90-year-old participants increased their strength by 174%, walking speed by 48%, and thigh muscle mass by 9% after just 8 weeks of high-intensity resistance training (PMID: 2342214). This highlights that age-related strength loss is primarily a reversible decline in muscle quality—not just lost muscle mass. But there’s another key piece: protein. For older adults, consuming about 1.6g/kg of body weight in protein daily has been shown to maximize gains in both muscle strength and mass. Combining resistance training with adequate protein intake is a game-changer for improving biological resilience, mobility, and overall quality of life as we age.
