Oakland is closing fire stations just a week after devastating fires in Los Angeles destroyed entire neighborhoods, and our city is teetering at the edge of bankruptcy. I am outraged. The state of our city and political corruption aren’t two separate issues. They are symptoms of the same cancer...

California has the nation’s highest housing costs. Some blame a housing shortage; others, government policies. We sit down with experts to explore what’s driving costs and discuss the state-mandated Housing Development initiative and why some cities push back.

It is time for pragmatic leaders to help right the ship of Oakland. Thank you for running

The city closing fire stations is criminal malfeasance - especially in light of what is happening in LA. Our government refuses to ensure the basic and essential functions of safety and health. Our tax dollars are wasted on cronyism. Please fix this!

Hope you win. Taking on the progressive corrupt cabal with public sector unions, non-profits, federal monitor, etc all needing chaos in Oakland to sustain their hooks in the fleecing of the city. So actually improving the city is a thought crime & threat to Oakland progressives

Correct. And somehow the wildfire tax all east Oaklanders will pay, which was rejected twice, was passed this last election cycle. Hmmm, really? So PG&E and EBRP get off the hook for their land maintenance? Are those east Oakland homes not affected by the closures? I doubt it.

You’d think the politicians of Oakland would remember the devastating Oakland Hills fire years ago. That was LA’s fire of just a couple of weeks ago.

Same corruption that elected you in the first place. Let's leave behind the corrupt politics of the past city leaders and elect someone who has proven she is focused on oakland.

I’m also outraged by the corruption and incompetence that has brought Oakland to it’s knees. This special election is hugely consequential. If you live in Oakland, you must educate yourself on the issues and vote!

Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant has been a cornerstone of this city for 77 years - longer than the Dodgers and the Lakers have called Los Angeles home. Recently, Norm Langer told the LA Times that he is considering closing his doors. His reason has nothing to do with his business itself, and everything to do with the city’s blatant neglect of its people and the failure of our elected officials. As a business owner myself and a Los Angeles native who grew up going to Langers, this is breaking my heart. Our city officials’ widespread inaction on rampant drug use and crime is failing our small businesses and our communities, like McArthur Park, and driving them out of the very neighborhood they helped build. What are we doing? I have known Norm for decades and hundreds of people like him. This city was built on the backs of people like Norm and his family. Our city thrives only when small businesses are successful. All across Los Angeles, restaurants and retailers are closing because Los Angeles is experiencing rising crime, homeless encampments, and unkept streets. To fail them is nothing short of a betrayal. It’s irresponsible and unfair to residents, employees, and business-owners who have sacrificed so much for this place we call home. We need our Mayor and City Council to act like leaders of a world-class city. To act with diligence and determination, before the people and places that make Los Angeles a home for all of us are gone forever.
