"Supersonic" was written and recorded in a single day, with Noel Gallagher reportedly finishing the song while the rest of Oasis took a break from the studio. Released as their debut single and later featured on Definitely Maybe, it was the first glimpse of the sound and attitude that would define the band. Two years later, this performance at Maine Road in 1996 shows just how far Oasis had travelled, playing their first single to a huge hometown crowd.

Liam Gallagher’s absence turned this into a very unusual Oasis television appearance. When “Cum on Feel the Noize” was performed on Later... with Jools Holland in November 1995, Noel Gallagher took the lead vocal, with Paul Weller among the musicians joining him. The song dated back to 1973, when Slade took the Noddy Holder and Jim Lea composition to No. 1 in the UK. Oasis recorded their own version during the (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? era and released it as the B-side to “Don’t Look Back in Anger” in February 1996. This performance therefore offered a rare Noel-fronted version before the Oasis recording was officially released.

Few days after the MTV Unplugged without Liam Gallagher, Oasis began their American tour in Rosemont, Illinois, on August 27, 1996. With Liam Gallagher still absent, Noel Gallagher took over as lead vocalist. Some performances from that gig remain unique to this day. A thread 👇
