git add -p

If you didn't watch the video: programmers paid a lot to fuck some hunks.

There's a company that used interactive mode and git cherry-pick to maintain per-client forks of a multi-million line PHP code base. Nothing more fun than sitting on a conference call at 4am with multiple teams looking at some release engineer's screenshare :)

Programmers are paid to git fucked

Ohhh, i didn't know that was called hunk, and kt was obscure. If you use vscode, the menu is there, "stage this selection", and you just... Stage the lines you selected. TIL TIL

some of these sometimes remain in the back of my mind and literally come in clutch when I am working on fixing some random issue on some random remote server

-i ?

I wish I knew this yesterday. I often have several changes in a file. But I stage the entire thing at once, because it works and I don't want to risk messing with it. But staging a file in parts makes splitting up a commit easier without changing the working tree.

I only come across things like this once a week but I need it at least 4 times a day. 80% of my feed is what I already know, 19% of my feed is noise and/or undigestible things not sold properly, and <1% is a gem like this clear and concise and new to me. This guy is gold.

I have always used git cola for this. this command looks pretty fine too!

i just learned the TODO list can promote itself. my own notes remain birdsong
