I was there! I kept telling people when they were hammering the Chargers in the Superbowl that when I saw them they got lit up by the Eagles. Totally different team in the same season.

Eagles/49ers 1994: Cunningham crushes the future Champs. The 1994 49ers went on to win the Super Bowl but they never took a beating like this. Before San Francisco even recorded a first down, the Eagles were already up 23–0. Charlie Garner ripped them apart with two touchdowns, while Randall Cunningham was surgical, throwing for 246 yards and two more scores. The defense turned the game into a humiliation. Steve Young was picked off twice in the first half and eventually benched midway through the third quarter. Final score: Eagles 40- 8. One of the most dominant performances ever against a Super Bowl champion.

December 17, 1978 FREDDIE SOLOMON: EMERGENCY QUARTERBACK After catching a 50-yard pass earlier in the game, #49ers starting wide receiver Freddie Solomon was thrust into the role of emergency quarterback after halftime in Detroit. Entering the contest, Solomon had been designated as the "backup" emergency quarterback behind Steve DeBerg, Scott Bull, and reserve safety/emergency quarterback Bruce Threadgill. DeBerg and Bull suffered injuries. Threadgill — a lefty — was active, but wasn't expecting to play because of a broken right thumb that was in a cast. After the first two QBs went down, Threadgill was sent to the locker room to have his cast removed. Solomon, who had played quarterback in college for the University of Tampa, didn't look bad. Primarily calling running plays, options, and his own number on occasion, Freddie completed 5 of 9 passes for 85 yards with one interception. He led the Niners on a fourth-quarter scoring drive capped by his own 11-yard touchdown run. Threadgill entered late in the game and threw two passes. Both were intercepted. #FTTB

November 19, 1989 "MAJIK" AT CANDLESTICK Playing with an injured knee and bruised ribs, quarterback Don Majkowski leads the 10-point underdog #Packers to a 21-17 upset win over the defending- and eventual-Super Bowl champion #49ers. Don Majkowski's touchdown on a QB draw with 12 minutes remaining puts #GoPackGo ahead for good. It would be the Niners' second and final loss of the 1989 season.

#49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said it was the first time in 40 years the Niners offense scored TDs on the first 5 possessions of a game during his post game victory speech. Fred Warner was impressed 👀 Via: San Francisco 49ers

December 14, 1987 Red-Letter Night for the Niners #49ers 41, Bears 0 After Joe Montana exits the MNF contest at Candlestick with a leg injury, Steve Young comes off the bench to throw four touchdown passes for the first time in his NFL career. Jerry Rice scores three times, his 11th consecutive game with a touchdown reception — tying an NFL record which he would break the following week. Rice also ties the then NFL single-season record for touchdown receptions (18), set by Miami's Mark Clayton in 1984. Dwight Clark scores the final touchdown of his standout NFL career, Dana McLemore returns a punt 83 yards for a score, and the #FTTB defense forces six Chicago turnovers in the rout. It is the Bears' worst loss of the Mike Ditka era.

John Taylor in Super Bowl XXIII In the second quarter, John returned a punt 45 yards — a then-Super Bowl record that would stand for 27 years. He later would famously catch the game-winning 10-yard touchdown pass from Joe Montana with :34 remaining — his only catch of the game. Happy Birthday, JT! #49ers #FTTB

On January 23, 1994, Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson famously backed up his guarantee of victory by leading his team to a 38-21 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. Following his bold "We will win" prediction, the Cowboys dominated, securing a spot in Super Bowl XXVIII.

October 11, 1981 "THE FRED DEAN EFFECT" The upstart #49ers crush the favored #Cowboys at Candlestick, 45-14 — Dallas's worst loss in eleven years. Days prior to the contest, San Francisco acquired future HOF defensive end Fred Dean in a trade with the Chargers. Fred had practiced with the Niners only twice prior to playing this game. The 49ers jumped out to a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter. However the real story of this game, in my opinion, is Dean. San Francisco had a fair 3-2 record entering the contest. However, after the addition of Fred Dean, who joined forces with a now-healthy Dwaine Board on the D-line — and paired with the 49ers' talented, rookie-laden secondary — the team would win 13 of its next 14 games en route to the franchise's first Super Bowl championship. Dean would take home UPI's NFC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1981, and his play would be a major catalyst in the 49ers' rise to a dynasty in the 1980s. #FTTB Video includes: • Rare CBS Sports' network feed broadcast footage of: · Open and pregame with Pat Summerall and John Madden · Pat and John's "hot-mic" comments during the end of the first quarter network commercial break · Fred Dean's dominant three-play sequence late in the first half • NFL Films footage featuring hilarious stories from Randy Cross and Ronnie Lott about the game and about Dean🚬
