Yeah, well all those artists were also guessing what they looked like 2,000 years later. Not like those painters had any fucking clue. I doubt ancient greeks looked like any one of those portraits.

Exactly

If there is any truth Greek mythology, they will surely punish Christopher Nolan for what he did to Helen of Troy. I mean she was meant to be a 10 out of 10 not 2 out of 10.

Casting Lupita as Helen was really off, diversity shouldn't destroy the essence of a story

I love how people here keep on getting Alcinous for Antinous, emperor Adrian’s gay lover

Those paintings were not from Homer. The painters also gave the characters their own interpretation. Odyssey was set in Mediterranean including turkey. Who gave them blue eyes blond hair

Helena is closest to the original 👍

casting seems pretty solid, really fits the vibe of the mythos

Homer never physically describes Helen, no face, no hair color, no body type. Just formulaic epithets like "white-armed" and "fair-faced," the same generic epic language used elsewhere. Her beauty is conveyed entirely through other people's reactions, the Trojan elders on the wall saying no wonder men have died for her, never through Homer telling you what she actually looked like. So there's no "literary description" to hold a casting choice up against. Any statue or painting used for that comparison is someone else's later invented ideal, not Homer's, because Homer deliberately never gave one. Also, "the face that launched a thousand ships" isn't Homer. That's Marlowe, 2000+ years later.

Great except for Helen........... beauty is in the eye of the beholder and while the black actress has her own beauty, it will never reflect Classical Greek/Trojan beauty. Surely Africa with its' many tribes has equivocal literature which could be emulated by a fiercely beautiful White woman.
Когда созданы эти произведения? Их создатели тоже не имели представления, как выглядели люди той древней эпохи и даже их уклада жизни. И создавали по своим представлениям о мире. Сам Гомер создал поэму, спустя 400 лет, и то не точно был ли он.

💩

I just saw the movie yesterday. What I disliked the most was Agamenón armour that breaks the whole style. It literally looks like Batman or robocop. The story is great. The acting was pretty mid imo.

Casting is fine. I don’t see a problem with it. The actors were all good in their roles.

Fir the most part it was accurate

Casting is so wrong!!

Especially Helen of Troy

Ο Μενέλαος στην #Odyssée γιατί είναι σαν τον @toumvas καράφλας τί μας κρύβει υπήρξε ομηρικός ήρωας?

@mdgabs

Well we all know zendaya and lupita are obviously shit casting choices.

Is this true?

Just cgi Mark Zuckerberg into every role

These images and sculptures were created several 1000 years after the events of the Iliad, the people who made them had the same idea of those events and heroes as we do.

Crap

Todos son fracasos, todos son diferentes.

I don't like these comparisons cos you've not really seen many celebrated statues with people who were ugly. So perhaps it's the statues not being loyal to history.

Arresting Weinstein was a mistake. He only wanted to bang actors. He didn't actively try and ruin movies.

That Antinous isn't the one from the *Odyssey*; he's Marcus Aurelius's lover—nothing to do with the one from the *Odyssey*, not even close

100% correct…. Nooooot

There were some I agreed with and those I didn't only because their acting really just destroyed the movie for me. Like Travis Scott, like Troy, like the historical accuracy. My least favorite acting I've seen so far was Anne Hathaway with probably the most cringe scene.

Vergonha. Querem apagar a história e reescreve-la ao bel prazer. Tá errado. Não se pode apagar a história, simplesmente porque gostaria que fosse diferente.
