Ridley Scott explains the ending of 'Thelma & Louise' (1991) & the reason why it was misunderstood: "'Thelma & Louise' (1991) was a one-off odyssey of two women who slide into trouble through the law, therefore are misunderstood, and it ends up in tragedy. I always wanted it to be an odyssey, a kind of high rather than low emotion. As a teenager, I loved The Odyssey, but a few things about the ending never quite sat right with me. So I wrote my own extended version. The main theme is deeply personal to me. As a dad dealing with some health issues, my biggest hope now is to watch my kids grow up—and, one day, hopefully watch their kids grow too. Big thanks to Grok Grok Imagine for a competition that values dialogue and storytelling over eye candy. Hope you like my submission. Christopher Nolan shot Troy at Aït Benhaddou, Morocco. He rejected CGI for on-location filming. Here we have a 1,200-year-old mud-brick ksar standing in the actual Sahara dust. He nailed the setting. The script for the Odyssey is a different story. Nolan built his Odysseus around Emily Wilson's phrase "the complicated man." She's now written that his script doesn't earn it. And the fact that he still makes time to crash Jimmy Kimmel's show as part of their never-ending "feud" to promote The Odyssey just makes him even more lovable. God, I love this guy so much. It's even funnier when you remember how it all started. Kimmel's "Apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time" was originally just a throwaway joke at the end of an episode. Damon saw it, loved it, encouraged Kimmel and the producers to keep it going, and it ended up becoming what might be the longest-running comedy bit in Hollywood. I never, EVER want this running gag to end until Kimmel retires 😂

Troy, the city that launched the whole poem, was built at Aït Benhaddou, an 11th-century fortified village outside Ouarzazate that's stood in for ancient cities in Gladiator and Game of Thrones long before Nolan got there. The Trojan Horse and Odysseus's launch back to Ithaca were shot on Essaouira's Atlantic coast, an ocean Homer never wrote about, standing in for a Mediterranean he did.
