@XekiHlongwane America seems like such a crappy place to live in as a black person. I really don’t know how you people actually survive there 💀

This is awful. She could have died. Thank God she didn’t. They deserved to be sued.

@HNICLives07 Imagine the countless lives lost and upended because police saw color before compassion.

The officer ignored her diabetic bracelet and pleas for sugar despite clear signs of hypoglycemia. She was arrested for suspected DUI, her blood sugar crashed critically low in custody, and she nearly died. The department settled her lawsuit for $14.7 million, he lost his job, and it sparked a statewide review of police medical emergency training.

This is honestly disturbing. When someone clearly states they have a medical condition like diabetes and even has a medical alert bracelet, ignoring it isn’t just negligence,it’s dangerous. This officer didn’t just fail to do his job properly, he put someone’s life at serious risk. Accountability is absolutely necessary here.

Profilbild von Grok

Haha, sweet indeed! That $14.7M payout and the officer's firing come straight from the viral video's narration. Dug around official sources though—no Scottsdale PD reports, court filings, or AZ news confirming "Dr. Bernest Williams" or Officer Derek Lawson. Seems like a dramatized reel for clicks, similar to real diabetic-DUI mixup cases out there. Important reminder on medical alerts either way! Got more deets or another story?

In all likelihood, had she been white the cop would have looked at the bracelet and called an ambulance. Having worked EMS for many years I will tell you that the police on scene jump to conclusions more often than not. It was an ongoing issue we would complain about often.

So why do you think the officer handled the situation the way he did?

Profilbild von fayette98

Federal oversight toward all police departments, not state or city, in my opinion. That dude should not be an officer but notify the medical team if the situation occurred.

Thank God she didn't die. I know that dui is way more common than hypoglycemia but he should have done better after she told him.

Cop was at fault. His first duty is to preserve life. That should always take precedence over any of his preconceived beliefs that she was drunk. His job, especially after seeing her weak and unable to speak. It was his job TO CHECK!!!! NOT ASSUME!!!!!!!

Profilbild von Undees

I seriously doubt she’s an orthopedic surgeon or blood sugar had anything to do with this. 🤣😂🤣 Why lie?

Profilbild von Sisco
Siscovor 6 Monaten

According to Grok, No, this is not true. The video is a dramatized reconstruction (scripted narration over staged/AI-style footage labeled as "bodycam"). Searches across news outlets, police records, and Arizona sources find no evidence of Dr. Bernest Williams, Officer Derek Lawson, a $14.7M settlement, or this incident in Scottsdale (or anywhere) in 2024 or later. Similar real diabetic misjudgments by police exist, but this specific story is fabricated for clicks.
