Who currently benefits in the current system? I'm guessing it's every producer who generates at a cheaper rate than the most expensive source at any given time.

Hi Tom, we agree that standing charges are too high right now — we’ve advocated for market reform to help lessen these costs for customers and have absorbed millions of £ to keep them as low as we can. I’d like to double-check things for you here though, as they shouldn’t be quite as high as £1 a day. Could you pop me a DM? 🐙

Same as us in north east England I live 12 mile away from North Sea and all the wind farms but got the dearest standing and usage charges in the country how’s that work at all, disgraceful talk about north, south divide it’s us up north that’s suffering everytime

The issue is @g__j , that other energy companies don’t want to see that £55bn reduction in revenue. Their shareholders certainly don’t

The head of Ofgem says customers "may" be able to save around £140 a year by switching the way they pay for energy. Then comes the obvious question: what about the energy companies making enormous profits while households are being hammered? His response is telling. Ofgem caps the profits of the suppliers it regulates through the price cap, he says. But the really big profits are being made by the oil and gas companies extracting energy from the ground. And dealing with those profits? That, apparently, is for government and the tax system. So there we have it. The public are told to manage their direct debits and ration their energy use, while the companies making fortunes from a basic necessity, our country's own resources, are treated as a matter for somebody else. The system is not broken. It is doing exactly what it was built to do: protect the market first and leave ordinary people to carry the cost. #energyefficiency #Ofgem
