I finished up work at a reasonable time, around 4:30pm. I checked on the 3 black kittens: Scooter (no rail), Scotty (1/2 a tail), and Sammy (full tail). Also put food in the attic just in case the white angel kitten is real, then sat on the couch. Skippy wasted no time hopping on my shoulder. Purring at first, then completely conked out.

Han shares the story of how he got his cat Cookie 🥹 Turns out that Cookie was actually a stray kitten Han: "Have I told you about Cookie? Cookie was a stray cat. My mom said there was a kitten in front of the house and it was raining. "So I put the food out but I'm not sure if they will eat it" is what they said. I went to take a look and there was a baby kitten. So I went out to see and this tiny little kitten was standing in front of the food bowl. At the time, the rain wasn't heavy, so I figured it would manage to eat and get by and I just kept an eye on it. Suddenly, it started raining really heavily so I went home to grab an umbrella and came back out. I was crouching down and holding the umbrella over Cookie the whole time and they weren't running away. I think I stayed like that for about an hour or two? Then the rain got so heavy that I thought something bad might happen to it so I just ended up taking it with me. My mom scolded me a lot but I just couldn't leave it."

Okay, attic kitten update time. I went kitten trappin’ this morning. Successfully caught all 3 at one time. Boy did they freak out! Stopped the video, and spent 2 minutes talking to them and reaching into the trap to pet them before they calmed down. I set them downstairs for a minute to interact with Skippy, their brother, and then off to the vet we went. They were very calm on the trip there and back, and at the vet too. Yes, I talked to them quite a bit along the way. The vet says I have 3 very healthy black kittens. Not even any fleas. The vet did give them a bath (did I mention they freaked out when I trapped them? Food went everywhere!). Vet says I apparently took very good care of them. Guess that is good, but it is great for the kittens!

My preference is white men. I never knew it was a problem until about 15 years ago when a work colleague (who was white, in her 40s then) was perving over a black fella at a do and asked if I thought he was 'gorgeous' and I said "nope. Not my type." She took offense and make it a big deal. I am not offended when black men and women state their preference as black. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. This is a ridiculous reaction.

How many mechanics does it take to catch one tiny kitten trapped in the underside of a car? Apparently… the whole shop (or at least 5 of them) 🐾 This tiny kitten was running all over the underside of a Honda while it was up on the lift. The crew had tools and flashlights out, everyone trying to track where it was moving next. There was a lot of “he’s right here!” and gentle chasing before they finally got him out safe. One of the guys ended up holding the tiniest little fluff ball like he’d just won the lottery. Would your local shop drop everything and turn into a full kitten rescue team, or is this next-level wholesome?

Kitten update #13: Finally, a bit of respite as the kittens have both taken to the litter box with a zero percent fail rate in 24 hours, and have also learned how to entertain themselves with some battle royale. Jeff found some thick cotton gloves stashed in the garage that have been a huge upgrade to the feeding experience. I still look like I wear barbed wire for jewelry but at least we're not adding new damage at this point. Slow but incremental progress on the solid food. I have convinced a couple of the kittens to suck it off my finger; while I was doing that, brown tabby stuck her head in the can I was holding in my other hand and ate a bunch of it. I hope she does it again where the other kittens can see it! View of the coliseum floor:

Mathieu Kassovitz on why 'La Haine' (1995) would have been horrible had it been in colour instead of Black & White: "Interviewer: Was it essential that it was three kids? Kassovitz: I needed a trio because when you’re with a friend, you have a discussion, and it ends fast because either you agree, or you don’t, but you cannot argue all the time. Three people can disagree all the time because it bounces from one to the other. I wanted one guy that’s the funny one in the middle; the political one that wants to get even with the society; and then the other one who’s trying to hold it in because he knows what real violence is. It was a trick, like the black and white is a trick too – to make it universal, a story that happens everywhere, so you don’t know if it’s Paris or Mexico or Brooklyn: it could be anywhere. Interviewer: How does black and white make it more universal? Kassovitz: When you look at black-and-white footage from the war, it changes when you see that footage put in colour. I did the voiceover for 'Apocalypse', a fantastic documentary series covering wars, for which they colourised all these black-and-white images and rendered them in HD. In colour, all of a sudden the footage becomes very personal – you see your grandfathers there, it’s not just ghosts or an artistic image, it could be today. What black and white does is bring poetry into reality. That’s why when you do a movie about poverty where you don’t have control over the environment and things are supposed to be ugly, it’s very difficult. It costs a lot of money to make it look good.
