Remember hearing a nature writer at Hay Lit Festival one year saying that he realised May was so special that he counted up how many years he might have left and thought, that’s only X Mays, so every year he took no other holiday but had the whole month of May off. Great idea!

Stunning photos - thanks for sharing. At some stage I lived in Old Glossop and hiked all over the western Peaks. I vividly remember walking Doctor’s Gate at Christmas when it snowed.

I’m with you on May - absolutely my favourite month; particularly for orchids. Interestingly though, Sir Don McCullin, whose photography I admire greatly, does his landscape and nature photography in the winter. He told me that, in summer, ‘the leaves get in the way’.

Ha! I can understand his thinking. Some scenes definitely look better stripped of summer’s fripperies. 🥰

His landscape photography has the same searching-for-truth feeling as his war photographs. He seems to be drawn by water flowing across the landscape, revealing all the gullies and irregularities hidden by summer growth.
