yes, i agree! i do believe mischaracterization can be annoying, but i think this moreso means in fanfic/art spaces where people are just trying to have fun; as well as the fact that there are multiple ways to interpret a character and none of them will be absolutely perfect

like i think i do in a way get it, because i also much prefer characters who are more similar to the canon and seeing them say things they would not say (like. idk. homophobia) can be annoying but if you dont like a fanfic you cN keep it to yourself 😭😭

thats fair. but even then i feel like theres a difference between mischaracterization in analysis spaces and mischaracterization in fanfiction, but people get a bit uptight about random mischaracterized fics with like, a couple hundred hits

“oh this fic is so out of character” who CARESSS no one is forcing you to read it. fics are not always made to be completely in character, they are made out of love for the characters and a desire to expand the series, or to just have fun

I think people issue with Mischaracterization is like if a character is super nice and the best person of a show or in a fandom and someone just makes them rude as shit and says canon or smth people have a right to be upset😭
