Okay this is crazy.... Qwen Image 2.1 can generatively upscale its own images. original image was a 1024x1024 output. second image is a 2x upscale using Qwen Image 2.1s editing capability. Prompt: "Upscale the image"

workflow below to test it yourself, its set to gen a 1:1 image then upscale that by 2x-ish. if you want differing res, you need to adjust accordingly. Workflow:

w4a8 for the original, bf16 for the upscale.

I did a story board, then cropped every tiny image, then upscale each with the same reference images, and it worked like a charm. Even blurry faces that was garbage was cleaned up, identity was 👌

preservation was awesome to see forsure. upscaling characters used to be a nightmare until now!

What node is this for sliding comparison?

compare images node you need to switch your nodes to 2.0 to run it though. it doesnt work on 1.0 nodes

Upscaling through the edit path rather than a conventional super-resolution model is interesting. I’d pair it with a crop/edge comparison against a pixel-upscale baseline to check whether Qwen preserves identity and text while hallucinating fine detail.

It really does a good job at retention of identity! I actually genned a bunch of examples for a video because its extremely viable from what ive tested so far

A trick. Instead of using Resolution Selector in upscale step, just use "Scale Image to Total Pixels Adv" upscaling with lanchos and pass that ~4 mega pixels image to the upscale image1 socket. This will preserve everything and give fantastic details. Prompt: "upscale <image1>

Все равно модель меня дико разочаровала. Остаюсь в 2511. Q2.1 отвратительно работает со стилизацией. Очень спорная модель. Видимо Алибаба выпустили ее в свободный доступ для поддержания своей репутации, но лучше бы они выпустили что-то другое.
