Older American explains “How the middle class was destroyed” “In 1978, I worked in a steel mill. I was getting paid between $16 and $18 an hour in a steel mill. My house payment was $125 a month. I was doing well. Then we started not putting tariffs on... China Steel, steel coming in from China and other countries. They were supplementing their industry, and they took our steel industry away from us. So I lost my job. They shut the mill down, and then I had to go figure it out. At the time, I was married with three kids, and this was in the 80s, early 80s, and I had to figure it out. I couldn't get a job that was going to pay sufficient for. To be able to survive. So I had to create my own businesses, and I've done that ever since. But it was the taking of the steel mills from this country and all these others that they've taken the auto industry and everything else that's killed our economy. Now you start making a fair playing field is what Mr. Trump is doing. President Trump is doing. Those jobs will come back, people will start making money. And you say, oh, well, you know, now we're not going to get cheap products. Now we're not going to get cheap products. But all the money that we're paying those countries for those cheap products will stay in this country and we will start manufacturing and we will have those jobs that pay good again. this guy gets it—globalists gutted the middle class, shipping steel jobs to China while elites got richer. Tariffs are the weapon to fight back, like Trump’s doing now, bringing manufacturing home. Yeah, prices might spike short-term, but that money stays here, rebuilding our industries, our communities. The working man’s been screwed long enough by the establishment. This is economic nationalism, America First, not cheap junk from overseas.

I am personally tired of "cheap" products because they are just that "cheaply made." Our appliances, clothes, household items etc. all garbage. We spend far more because we have to purchase 3 times more often.

Speaking in the Steel Industry (Special Measures) Bill debate today, we should all focus on the requirement to save the jobs of those 3,500 people who have this threat hanging over them. China is pushing to shut down British steel industries, pushing forward to shut down the blast furnaces in the UK. Far too many countries like China have abused the rules of the free market, have subsidised their industries ridiculously, and have used slave labour to produce products. When that happens, the free market is dead. China now itself is suffering from an overproduction of steel. Their own housing industry has gone static on them, and they were one of the biggest users of the steel produced by China. Where is that steel going to go? It’s no surprise that a Chinese company Jingye is involved in this, because by pushing forward to shut down the blast furnaces in the UK, they know that we will have to buy slab steel from China. That means a whole rethink of the Government’s China policy. The previous Conservative Government should never have awarded it the contract, and I warned them about that. It is time for us to make sure that we deal with China at face value and do not accept the pretence that this company is private or in any way detached from its Government. That is a critical point. Cheap Chinese steel is a desperate problem for us, and we need to work with other countries in dealing with it. We also need to get our costs down. On Net Zero, I hope that the Secretary of State will tell the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero that we cannot go on like this. #BritishSteel

George Lucas on how he had to reluctantly write the screenplay for 'American Graffiti' (1973) & the confidence he gained from the movie's success: "When I was doing 'American Graffiti' (1973) I was still struggling with my ‘I don’t want to be a writer’ syndrome. I had some good friends of mine that I wanted to write the screenplay, but it took me like two years just to get the money to do a screenplay. And I got a little tiny amount of money and—which I had to go actually to the Cannes Film Festival to get on my own. So finally I got this money. I called back and I said, you know, “I got the money. We can start working on the screenplay.” And they said, “Oh, we don’t want to do that now. We’ve got our own low-budget picture off the ground and we can’t write it.” I said, “Oh no.” I said, “What am I going to do? I am in Europe and I’m not going to be back for like three months and I want to get this thing off the ground.” So they recommended another student from school that I knew pretty well. I had a story treatment that laid out the entire story scene by scene, so I called him over the phone from London and I said, “Do you want to do this?” And he said, “Okay.” The person I was working with at that time as a producer made a deal with him for the whole money because there wasn’t very much. It was so tiny that he could only get him to do it for the whole amount of money. When I came back from England, the screenplay was a completely different screenplay from the story treatment. Trump: I will not be abandoning the farmers. We are strong on the borders and for the farmers and others in the hotel industry. We have similar situations and Kristi and I will be working with the states and we will work something where the farmers and be responsible. They have had people around for 10 or 15 years and they know them well, we will put them responsible, and issue a form of card or documents and the farmer will be responsible for these people. They will not have citizenship but they will be working and paying taxes. We need to get our farmers the people they need or else the farmers will not be able to do their land. It was tried when there was a very strong guy, and he got everybody out, and every farm almost in the country but every farm in California or Iowa went bankrupt and they had nobody to work and we do not want that situation. We will put our farmers and others in charge of the people that they have under them. They know the people and it will work out well. We will take care of our farmer but to get the criminals out. People are freaking out and overreacting to the tariffs because they are NOT informed. This gentlemen explains. “I think it could be the best thing that has happened to this country in 135 years….in 1890 there was no sales tax, there was no income tax, there was no property tax, there was only tariffs on what was coming into the country and in 1890, the Congress had to convene a special commission to figure out what to do with the surplus money.” Will it happen overnight? Nope. It will take time but as other countries start feeling the pinch or the loss of the American market, a real free trade market will emerge and prices will come down. President Trump will not flinch first.

I know when I was running in 2018, this is the fact, I mean most of the people in the RPOF were not for me in the primary. I mean, that's just the reality and so it is what it is. And then you spend money to do it and if you're not able to do that, then you don't even get known to begin with and that's challenging. So I think there should be debates generally. I love Elon Musk's old interviews. I really enjoy hearing what he said back then, knowing what the future holds. This "CBS Sunday Morning" interview was recorded in 1998, when then 27-year-old Elon talked about starting his first company: “That was the summer of '95. I had no money whatsoever. I was working, doing research in Silicon Valley on a completely different subject and trying to start this company at the same time. And when it came time to decide do I want to do graduate studies or do I want to start this company and I decided to start the company. I had no money. As a graduate student, I would have received a scholarship and a stipend and so forth. In starting the company, I had nothing. I had no income source. So we found that an office was actually cheaper than an apartment in Silicon Valley. So we got this dinky little office that had a leaky roof. It was just the nastiest place you can imagine. And you lived in it. And I lived in it too and showered at the YMCA. This lasted for about three or four months. And the reason we chose this office, in addition to it being really cheap, was that there was an internet service provider on the floor below. So we were able to get really cheap internet access by drilling a hole in the floor and connecting to their server directly.”
