Olympic skier Hunter Hess recently said he had “mixed emotions about representing the US” in Italy. On Friday, after his qualifying run, he flashed an “L” sign with his hand in response to President Trump calling him a loser. At Friday night’s final, Hess finished 10th.

Imagine being his parent. You've spent thousands to get him the training and equipment he needed to reach international-level competition, you've traveled and sacrificed your own time. You hope your child will be successful and perhaps win a few endorsements to repay the family. Then he goes out and acts like a spoiled dick.

Yeah, the five traitor losers all did pretty crappy: Amber Glenn (Figure Skating): In the short program, she committed an "invalid element" error on a jump (popping a planned triple into a double), costing her over 7 points and dropping her from medal contention. This placed her out of the podium despite a clean free skate bounce-back. Mikaela Shiffrin (Alpine Skiing): Earlier in the Games, she had a disappointing start, including a fall in the combined event that cost the U.S. team a potential medal. No medals in other individual events entered (e.g., giant slalom or super-G). Hunter Hess (Freestyle Skiing - Halfpipe): Finished 10th overall with a best score of 58.75. Crashed on landings in his first two runs (scores of 27.25 and "Did Not Improve"), losing a ski in the second. His third run was cleaner but included mistakes that prevented a higher placement. Chris Lillis (Freestyle Skiing - Aerials): Finished 8th in men's individual aerials after a tough landing in qualifiers (did not land cleanly in one attempt but qualified via second run). Rich Ruohonen (Curling): The U.S. men's curling team did not medal (eliminated without podium finish). As an alternate, Ruohonen threw only a few stones and had no direct impact on wins.
