Wait until they find out there used to be what were called “party lines,” where you shared your phone line with others. Example - you could be on the phone, someone in your “party,” who you didn’t know, could randomly pick it up and listen. The more you know 😂

And when we wanted to avoid someone REAL bad but we needed someone else to get thru, we'd do a ring code. "Let it ring twice, then hang up and call back. Then I'll know it's you." Lord I used that one a LOT.

And when they finally had the RJ jacks, you just unplugged it from the wall or the handset cradle from the larger part of the phone so you didn't have to listen to that siren type sound. LOL

And… if someone called, you could lift receiver and the circuit would not break… and the oarty calling could not use their phone till you put receiver back on hook.

What today's young will never have the joy of experiencing is slamming to receiver down when the fool on the other end ticked you off. Somehow just ending a call on a cell is not the same. Now if only someone could make an app replicating that sound, that petty level of joy ..... 😆

No, if you didn’t want to take a call, you just disconnected the cord from the phone for a while, turn the ring off. It Wasn’t that puzzling 😊
