Stop pushing this nonsense. This is how the Soviet Union reacted, and in case you didn’t realise, they let every republic secede in 1991. They also withdrew every Soviet soldier from Eastern Europe on the promise NATO wouldn’t expand east. How did that turn out?

I remember when Soviet tanks rolled into Vilnius. It was really frightening times. I’m so proud and happy that our strong Lithuanian people fought for our independence and we won without firing one bullet. 🇱🇹🇱🇹🇱🇹

Lithuania is a former Grand Duchy of Lithuania, not a "former Soviet state". Lithuania 🇱🇹was illegally occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940. Despite Soviet claims, Lithuania never legally ceased to exist as a state. BBC News (World), please take note: The term "former Soviet state" is misleading because it implies voluntary inclusion in the USSR, whereas Lithuania's status was one of occupation and annexation.

Less than a year later, the USSR attempted to retake the country by force - through military pressure, intimidation, and outright violence. On the early morning of January 13, 1991, Soviet troops and special units stormed the Vilnius TV Tower and the Radio and Television Committee building. Unarmed civilians came out to defend their country, their media, and their right to be free. As a result of the attack, 14 Lithuanians were killed, and around 900 were injured. They were killed for seeking to escape the Soviet "prison of nations." Later, in an attempt to distance himself from responsibility for the deaths, Mikhail Gorbachev claimed he had no knowledge of the operation and had given no such orders. The January events in Vilnius became a symbol of the collapse of the Soviet myth of "brotherly peoples" and a "voluntary union." Until its very end, the USSR was willing to hold onto its colonies only by force of arms.

The Soviet Union was a colonial Russian project, a reconstruction of the Russian Empire that declared the break from the Empire ideologically but used the imperial and colonial strategies and tactics to piece the state together.
