A Muslim-majority country, Kazakhstan, has banned the burqa, niqab, or any clothing that covers the face in public places. A fine can also be imposed for violations. The Kazakh government clearly believes that covering the face is not part of their ancient Kazakh culture. It is a practice that came from outside. If a Muslim country can ban the burqa and niqab to protect its own culture, then why can’t a non-Muslim country do the same? Why is it defended as a “right” in non-Muslim countries?
