Date: 11th August 2026 In the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2026, the state of Manipur, which has been facing prolonged unrest for the past 3 years and 4 months, has delivered a performance that has exceeded all expectations. Despite the prevailing challenges, sportspersons from Manipur representing various disciplines have brought immense pride and honor to both the state and the nation. It is noteworthy that Manipur has surpassed several traditional sports powerhouses including Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh in the overall tally. This achievement stands as a testament to the resilience, talent, and dedication of our athletes. We extend our heartiest congratulations to all the sportspersons for this remarkable feat. In light of this achievement, I would like to make a sincere appeal to the Government of India, and in particular to the Hon’ble Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, to accord priority to the establishment of a state-of-the-art Sports University, Stadium, and sports infrastructure in the hill districts of Manipur as well. It is imperative to ensure equitable development. At present, most sports stadiums, state-of-the-art facilities, and premier institutions in health and education are concentrated in the Imphal Valley. Similar facilities must be extended to the hilly regions to nurture talent across the state.
