On this day in 2009, Roger Federer secured his sixth Wimbledon title with a win over Andy Roddick 🏆

Does anyone else remember how brutal that match was to watch? Roddick held serve for the entire match until the very last game. Heartbreak for Andy, but a masterclass from Roger.

Roddick was unlucky to run into peak Federer, losing three Wimbledon finals to him. Roddick had one of the greatest serves in tennis history, but Federer was a master and the best at neutralizing big servers. He took away Roddick's biggest weapon and left him with almost no answers. If Federer hadn't been standing on the other side of the net, Roddick could easily have ended his career as a four-time Wimbledon champion.

Roddick would have been a multiple majors winner in any other era. Unfortunately for him, there was Federer at his peak

That 16-14 fifth set still hits my heart like it was yesterday, pure magic from the GOAT.

That final set was absolute torture as a Roddick fan, but you have to respect the level of tennis Roger brought that day. 16-14 in the fifth is still one of the most insane scorelines in history.

One of the most nerve-racking Wimbledon final matches ever. Roddick was serving aces like there was no tomorrow, and Federer was also in superb form. Finally, after over 5 crazy intense hours, Roddick blinked first.

Roddick himself recently said that "Danil Medvedev is better than I ever was" But Fed widows try to make him out to a legendary player to try to gloss over the weak era where most low ranked players were getting to the latter stages of slams

Also he won his 15th grand slam breaking Pete Sampras record

Poor Andy never had a chance against the 🐐

That 16-14 fifth set took so long to finish that I aged about five years sitting on my couch 😭Andy Roddick put on an absolute masterclass only to run into prime, unstoppable jacket-wearing Roger nervous system has never fully recovered from watching those consecutive holding serves in the final hour.They simply do not make tennis rivalries or grand slam finals like this anymore!
