On this day in 2010: Collateral Murder. WikiLeaks released a secret US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff.

The two Collateral Murder children, Sajad and Doha, were left fatherless and continue to suffer from shrapnel wounds 18 years after the deadly attack on their father’s minivan. He was attempting to save the life of a wounded Reuters journalist when a U.S. Apache helicopter opened fire. To this day, they have received no acknowledgment of wrongdoing and no compensation. “Well, it’s their fault for bringing their kids into a battle,” quipped one of the Apache pilots in the Collateral Murder video. WikiLeaks later published evidence of thousands of previously unreported civilian deaths in Iraq — many of them involving children. The United Nations has raised serious concerns over the growing disregard for the protection of children in armed conflict. In recent years, some of the worst cases have occurred in Yemen and, especially, in Gaza, where it is estimated that children account for 44% of the civilian death toll.

And these same sort of atrocities continue to this very day. Through their lies and censorship, perception management, our governments continue to manufacture consent for these sorts of crimes. "If wars can be started by lies, peace can be started by truth."

Yes, and the same will probably happen again in ten years. More evidence and videos will be released, and there will be an initial uproar; but do these people ever face consequences? Does that stop this vicious cycle? No. It's just so tiresome.

The release of collateral murder took me on a journey of questioning a lot of what the media tried to have me believe. This painted a different picture and the reality greatly contrast what they want us to believe.

15 years ago, releasing videos documenting a US war crime prompted criminal prosecution, imprisonment and assassination plans against Assange. Today, the USG publishes videos of its war crimes against Yemen. I appreciate transparency, but is this an improvement?

The US sure threw a fit when they were caught behaving like israel.
