What if I told you that forests hidden in our oceans may be more valuable than many forests on land ? Coral reefs, seagrass meadows and seaweed forests are among Earth’s most important ecosystems. Coral reefs cover just 0.1% of the ocean floor yet support nearly 25% of all marine species and the livelihoods of 500 million people. This initiative, by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department in collaboration with SDMRI and IIT Madras, aims to strengthen coastal resilience of Tuticorin and Rameswaram & protect local communities from natural calamities. As part of the Tamil Nadu Sustainably Harnessing Ocean Resources project, 8,500 multipurpose artificial reef modules are being deployed to restore 2 acres of degraded coral reefs and 3 acres of seagrass beds. The initiative will involve over 300 members of local communities, integrating ecological restoration with community-based development. Here is some fabulous news on the International Day of Forests 2025. Tamil Nadu is on a Mission to create new Mangrove forests & restore degraded ones.Through strategic afforestation & ecosystem revival efforts, the state is reinforcing its natural coastal defense and fostering biodiversity through Green TN Mission. New Mangrove forests have been planted in 5,937.9 acres while restoration of degraded Mangroves forests has been done in 3,539 acres across 10 districts, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Ramanathapuram,Thoothukudi and Chennai. The best news is this is being done with local community participation. On behalf of BJP Tamilnadu and the people of Tamil Nadu, we thank our Hon PM Thiru Narendra Modi avl for gifting the Thoothukkudi Pearls – the indigenous species of pearl oyster Gould, which is one of the three valuable species of pearl oysters cultured across the world and the Terracotta Horses - a household figurine found in TN on which Lord Aiyyanar travels to protect villages, to Co-Founder of Microsoft, Thiru Bill Gates avl. We are indebted to our beloved PM for making it a point always to promote the rich culture and traditions of India, especially Tamil Nadu, in the global arena.

Congratulations Tamil Nadu, Today we take a leap in the conservation journey of Tamil Nadu with the notification of the Dhanushkodi Greater Flammingo Santuary. As announced by the TN Govt. The total Notified area is 524.78 Hectares. Nearly 128 species of birds, 47 plant species including Mangroves, Dugongs, Corals, Sea Grass and Molluscs species of turtles and birds thrive here. With this notification Tamil Nadu has added 8 new wildlife sanctuaries in the last 4 years including two bird sanctuaries(Kazhuveli & Nanjarayan) and South Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, Thanthai Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Agasthiyamalai Elephant Reserve, Dugong Conservation Reserve, Kadavur Slender Loris Sanctuary & Dhanushkodi Greater Flammingo Santuary #DhanushkodiSanctuary #WorldEnvironmentDay2025 #WorldEnvironmentDay
