I sued my HOA for failure to disclose financial records upon request. They paid $20k in legal fees to fight it. I represented myself and it cost me ~$280. Then I moved out. Fuck HOA’s.

I’m convinced that HOA boards are made up of people who ran for student council in high school and lost.

This is just another example of good intentions gone bad HOA should be outlawed. There’s enough city ordinance at this point to take care of most reasons why HOA’s were originally created.

She asserts it’s not legal. Anything in public view can be recorded or photographed . Doesn’t matter what your local code or even state law says. This has been made extremely clear by SCOTUS and this woman is just lying about the officer saying she has a case. She doesn’t. Additionally why would anyone buy a home in an HOA? What a nightmare.

You can probably demand the fines be reversed because the evidence used against you was obtained illegally. It’s a fruit of the poisonous tree defense.

WAIT?!? Is it against your bylaws if on YOUR property?? Because “Bylaws” be existing but they cant overrule city or county rule. So on “Private property” if your dog pees. HOA cannot enforce. But on common area they have a say.. That is a HUGE legal difference!

I don’t like having an HOA but the developer created it. I am now the VP of the HOA with the express motive of paring the rules down to the bare minimum and ensuring people aren’t harassed by idiots. HOAs have pros, which I intend to keep, such as snow clearance and street lighting, but the stupid BS about what you can put on your own property has got to go.

HOA’s need to be banned. And this is coming from a person that’s against govt and thinks most things should be legal.

I had an HOA board member that harassed the neighborhood incessantly. I read the codes on blocking views at a corner (he/she was on a corner). I called code enforcement and they came and cut his favorite tree down. Broke him.

The hidden cameras turn it into stalking. Peeping Tom! HOA member has an "I'm in Charge" complex and using the HOA anorney to defend them will drive up HOA fees. Talk to all neighbors and unset this person that is mentally ill.

Yea, I’ve dealt with that. Don’t buy a home in an HOA ( Hoes On Acid ) They suck to deal with.

Take it out with a 22lr (using subsonic rounds and a suppressor if need be). Trail cam on a tree? Blast it. Cam on a pole, as long as you can take a shot without endangering anyone? Blast it. Just stay concealed when ya do it and then confront them when you “notice” them fiddling with “something.” Illegal? Don’t care. Don’t be a pervert spying on someone’s private space. Eventually it’ll be too expensive for the gooner to replace because cams are much more expensive than a 10 cent .22lr round.

Dissolve the HOA as soon as you can . I am suing my now over their nonsense. CC&RS are to protect both the homeowners and the HOA . I had the same problem with a HOA board member and one of her security cameras was pointed at my front of my house and a neighbor. Emailed the Board President explained about that and the board member damaged my roof with a large umbrella in winds . She said she would repair it , never did so I sent her a bill for repair . She refused to pay so had a law firm send a demand letter she ignored it. A pompous entitled a$s of a human . Police said almost exactly as you did . She moved the camera after pressure from the lawyer and the HOA president.

The word in this circumstance is "Surveilled", not surveyed. Not trying to be mean, don't want you to sound ignorant on future vids. Good for you fighting back!

Solution. Run for office of HOA. Start every meeting with a motion to disband the HOA. Or Dont live in fucking HOA’s Nothing but Karens & money laundering…

People really need to stop using words like fine, fee, seize, confiscate, license, and so forth. Call it what is is. Bandits stole They robbed. They are criminal scum. Use the correct word, not one which pretends crime is care, if some criminal plays make-believe helper guy.

This is why I hate HOA’s. And I’m petty with a temper. I can say I would not have handled this quite as patiently/legally as they did. “What camera??”

Depending on your State and HOA guidelines you may or may not have a case.

Anyone in an HOA can run for the board. Run for the board, run as a group with neighbors. Make HOA fun. I am on the board. It’s so much better.
