Once or twice a year I watch this 55-second interview excerpt with filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski. It never fails to break my heart.

When I was ten, right in the middle of liturgy, I suddenly asked myself without forethought, 'Who am I?', and 'Why am I here?' At age 80, I have answered both. Now I have ahead of me the desire to aid others down those paths without intruding a single interval from my own life.

Sounds like a wonderful thing to do for others, Sarkis. You are a lucky man. I’d say 99.9% of the people never manage to answer those questions. In your case, did you recently find the answers or did it happen years ago?

Important questions indeed... I'd say I figured out passable answers to them around senior year in college. Not due to my professors actually, but due to watching psych lectures on YouTube.

Finding those answers so early in life must change your whole world perspective. Professors rarely help with these things.

There are similar sentiments expressed by the Canadian poet John Newlove with corresponding affects on the viewer.
