The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has once again demonstrated a troubling lack of leadership and I repeat again that he is one of the most useless governors in Nigeria, at a time when his people need him most. While bandits were killing and kidnapping residents across the state, particularly in Akure north, he was in Lagos attending an owambe. Just last weekend, I ran into his convoy trapped in major traffic after he was returning from at airport commissioning in another state, seemingly detached from the urgent security crisis at home. The “Samuel Doe” of Akure is such a failure!

It was a great honour and a heartwarming moment I do not take for granted. This is a humbling recognition and appreciation of my stewardship over the years, a pointer to what we set to achieve together in the days ahead and the shared vision for the future. Thank you all.

Come see Akure, as they drive through the city. Akure is the capital of Ondo state, southwestern Nigeria. It lies in the southern part of the forested Yoruba Hills and at the intersection of roads from Ondo, Ilesha, Ado-Ekiti, and Owo. Akure is an agricultural trade centre for cassava, corn (maize), bananas, rice, palm oil and kernels, okra, rubber, coffee, and pumpkins. Although cocoa is by far the most important local commercial crop, cotton, teak, and palm produce are also cultivated for export. The town’s industries include electronics manufacturing, soft drink bottling, weaving, and pottery making. Akure is the site of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (founded in 1981), and the Federal College of Agriculture (1957). Ondo, state, western Nigeria. It was created out of former Ondo province of former Western state in 1976. It is bounded by the states of Kwara and Kogi on the north, Edo on the east, Delta on the southeast, and Osun and Ogun on the west and by the Bight of Benin of the Atlantic Ocean on the south. Ondo state includes mangrove-swamp forest near the Bight of Benin, tropical rain forest in the centre part, and wooded savanna on the gentle slopes of the Yoruba Hills in the north. Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy, and the chief products are cotton and tobacco from the north, cacao from the central part, and rubber and timber (teak and hardwoods) from the south and east; palm oil and kernels are cultivated for export throughout the state. Traditional industries include pottery making, cloth weaving, tailoring, carpentry, and blacksmithing. Mineral deposits include kaolin, pyrites, iron ore, petroleum, and coal. There is a textile mill located at Ado-Ekiti and a palm-oil processing plant at Okitipupa. The state, primarily inhabited by the Yoruba, a people with a tradition of living in towns, has a high proportion of urban dwellers. Akure, the state capital, is rapidly developing into a commercial and industrial centre and is the site of a federal university of technology. The Ikogosi hot spring and the historic Idanre Hills are places of interest. The main highway from Benin City to Lagos crosses the southern part of the state. Area 5,639 square miles (14,606 square km). Pop. (2006) 3,441,024. Yorubaland is blessed and the best place in Africa.
