One Iconic Theme Tune. Sportsnight

Remember Exeter 4-0 Newcastle Utd when I was about seven and feeling totally ladgeful. 😢😢😢 @Nicky_Luke_Ross @nickdonaldson3 @stevewraith @cyp_toon @NE5westend

You hear that tune and your memory drifts back to Proper European Knock Out matches on muddy pitches with the plucky Brits against the cheating foreigners

Iconic 👌

Wednesday nights for the European football first division highlights fa & league cup ties & replays and euro championship & world cup qualifers a long with the sports harry carpenter the presenter

Usually only got to see this as a young teen during school holidays. Fab memories.

Wow .... a blast from my past. Only able to watch on school holidays , and as you said an iconic theme music 🎶. Sky can only dream to have such a theme ....

I'm sure my parents knew...but sneaking over to the black and white on my red table. The headphones were already in. Maybe going to the loo...then switching on the really loud on button while closing the door - thinking they didn't hear me. What a theme, what a show. I miss it. x

Many years ago asked Tony Hatch could I use 30 seconds for my sports programmes, such a nice guy. Im sure he is still alive in his late eighties now. Little known fact he also done Emmerdale and Crossroads by memory & many more.

It was such a treat

Staying up on a school night watching this.🤎

Loved that theme tune, meant a midweek late night and seeing some European game on a grainy film and a black and white checked football and shiny exotic looking kits. And Harry Carpenter of course

That was Wednesday night sorted.

With Coleman! (At one stage!)

Harry Carpenter.

Bed time!

I loved Sportsnight

i used this for the opening of every episode of the Squeaky Bum time Podcast

Waiting for highlights of the midweek games.

Classic.

I used to wet my pants as a kid when this music started on a Wednesday night as a kid. Not literally but the excitement was intense. BBC Sport then was iconic, sadly nonexistent nowadays 😔

When Lineker scared that goal against Luton in the FA Cup quarter final replay 40 years ago.

Great theme tune and always a bonus, great midweek sports football show, also thanks mum for letting me stay up 🙂

Brilliant memories. Arry

Wow, endorphin rush listening to that piece of magic.

BBC ✊🏼

👌

When I was a kid I'd go to bed but switch on my portable telly waiting for Sportsnight to come on, really looking forward to it. So many times I would be woken up by this music as the programme was ending.
