This is what enforced hijab looks like. In a clinic, a woman refuses to provide medical care to another woman because she is not wearing a hijab. “I’m in charge here. You have to wear a hijab,” she tells her. The woman refuses, drops her appointment number, and walks out. Regime supporters are now circulating the video as an example of how women who reject compulsory hijab should be treated. But no amount of intimidation can erase what is happening across Iran: millions of women are refusing to comply. Iranian women have faced detention, violence, torture, and even death for refusing to surrender their freedom. They have not backed down. The regime can enforce rules. It cannot force women to believe in them. #Iran

They turn on him, beat him and ultimately throw him into a trash bin. They tell you hijab is empowering. They tell you hijab is a choice. They tell you hijab is liberating. They tell you it’s your duty as a progressive human to respect hijab. I don’t know any liberated, empowered woman who would choose this humiliation and abuse for themselves. If women can’t even eat a bite of food without torturing themselves, what kind of choice is that? What are they liberating themselves from? Because the hijab I was forced into was never this repressive and I constantly felt like I was suffocating. If this is liberation according to Muslims, you can guess the rest of their “peaceful” ideology for sure!

Shame! Shame! Shame! My head bows down in embarrassment. Today, I feel ashamed because of the shameless women of my country. I call them shameless because they see themselves as mere sexual objects, not as human beings. They believe that if men look at them, they will jump in sexual excitement and pounce on them. By thinking this way, they have not only demeaned themselves but also insulted men. Iran is not too far from Bangladesh. Do these women not know that their fellow Muslim sisters in Iran are being forced to protest against the hijab? Because in that country, hijab is not a choice—it is compulsory! Hundreds of women have been imprisoned, beaten to death, or even shot simply for not wearing the hijab or for not wearing it "properly." And now, women in Iran are even facing the death penalty for not covering themselves. Iranian women are fighting to free themselves from the clutches of the hijab, yet instead of showing solidarity with those oppressed women, Bangladeshi women are willingly wrapping themselves in the same chains. When hijab becomes mandatory, these women will realize the terrible trap they have fallen into. Even if they want to take it off, they won’t be able to. Because removing it will mean facing death. The hijab they wear today out of choice will become unbearable torment tomorrow. Many say that women are the enemies of women. I usually don’t believe that. But seeing the women who marched in favor of hijab in Dhaka, I have no doubt that they are enemies of women. Feminists fought to advance women's rights, but these "burqa-clad" women have dragged that progress ten steps backward. In the battle between feminists and misogynists, these women have sided with the misogynists. Once upon a time, Dhaka University was a stronghold of women's liberation. Today, it is swarming with ignorant, religiously brainwashed, pathetic zombies from madrasas. Let us observe a minute of silence.
