"Everywhere" was written by Christine McVie during the turbulent recording sessions for Fleetwood Mac's 1987 album Tango in the Night. While the band was dealing with considerable internal tensions including the strained relationship between Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, McVie created one of the album's brightest and most pop-oriented songs. The contrast between the track's joyful, romantic sound and the turmoil surrounding its creation makes it one of the album's most striking recordings. The track became one of Fleetwood Mac's biggest hits of the 1980s, reaching No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, while topping the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in the United States.

“My Happy Ending” was written by Avril Lavigne and Butch Walker for Lavigne's second studio album, Under My Skin (2004). The song was actually a relatively late addition to the album: Walker initially gave it a softer arrangement built around acoustic guitar and programmed drums, but after drummer Kenny Aronoff added live percussion, the track evolved into the bigger more powerful sound heard on the finished recording. Released in 2004 as the second single from Under My Skin, “My Happy Ending” became one of Lavigne's biggest hits, reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart. It also peaked at No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart and became a Top 10 hit in several other countries.

“Are You Gonna Go My Way” was written by Lenny Kravitz and Craig Ross for Kravitz's 1993 third studio album of the same name. The song's iconic riff was born almost by accident: with only about 15 minutes left in a studio session, Ross started playing the riff and Kravitz immediately joined him. Along with bassist Tony Breit, they jammed on the idea and had the basic track recorded roughly half an hour later. Kravitz wrote the lyrics the following day on a Chinese takeaway bag. Released in 1993 as the album's lead single, “Are You Gonna Go My Way” became one of Kravitz's signature songs, reaching No. 1 on the US Mainstream Rock chart, No. 2 on the Modern Rock chart, No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart, and No. 1 in Australia.
