The public believe One Nation is far right, and this has only helped their popularity. But leaderships’ failure to internalise this fact and instead continuing their revenue seeking candidate model while banning far right candidates may be the party’s undoing. As a minor party, it tried to field candidates everywhere. That meant recruiting whoever was available, often with limited vetting or ideological cohesion. Most never won, but when candidates did enter parliament, many defected or contradicted the party that elected them. Now One Nation is no longer a fringe minor party and is name alone can carry candidates into office, so the cost of choosing the wrong people is much higher. The party has introduced more extensive vetting, but the apparent priority is excluding anyone with “far right” associations, not ensuring every candidate actually shares the party’s central positions which are by nearly all standards “far right”, and for that reason is why a lot of Australians are voting for them. Australians are tired of the moderate uniparty and want radical solutions. Failure to recognise what it is or evolve from revenue seeking produces MPs who diverge publicly from Pauline Hanson, contradict one another, and create headlines about subjects the party never intended to campaign on. David Farley, Virgo and even Barnaby Joyce are examples. A candidate system designed for a minor party to raise money cannot simply be scaled into a major political force. If One Nation wants to replace the Liberal Party as the principal party of the Australian right, it needs candidates selected for discipline, competence and genuine agreement with its defining platform. Otherwise, its electoral success will reproduce the same internal instability that has repeatedly destroyed its momentum in the past, where most candidates who get elected simply leave (1.1x speed clip btw).

This is only possible because the people in charge hate you. There's no other explanation for a country that sits on thousands of years of energy supply to be in the situation Australia is.
