Parties like One Nation and People First have GROSS overseas migration policies. This is a MUST READ for anyone entering the debate on Immigration Numbers. This includes Pauline Hanson 🇦🇺 Malcolm Roberts 🇦🇺 Roberts is entirely correct in his representation of One Nations immigration policy. One Nation policy clearly states 130,000 is the total number of long term visas on offer each year. The people understood this didn’t include short term holiday makers, PALM workers, travelling visas and farm hands - all of which are less than 12 months and mobile travelling persons. The number promised by One Nation is 130,000 GROSS. Not Net (NOM). The confusion comes from what is a short stay visa (not counted in NOM) and long stay visas which are. When One Nation state 130,000 Gross, that directly uses the same definition of what is a long stay (12m+) visa. The word NET means total coming into Australia vs leaving. Any NOM figure which is positive, means population increases. It floats on the coming vs the going. Under NOM of 130,000, you can have 500,000 people come, and 370,000 leave and the result is 130k NOM. (Population Increases) One Nation promised Gross 130,000. Not NOM. Under a Gross 130,000, you can have a maximum of 130,000 12m+ visas issued, and the same 370,000 leave. The resultant NOM will be Negative Net Overseas Migration of -240,000 (Population Decreases) Under BOTH the NOM and GROSS counting, short term visas such as farm hands are IRRELEVANT. They don’t enter the conversation and they don’t effect the population numbers Anyone who tells you a NOM of 130,000 will result in a reduction of population is absolutely WRONG. NOM is simply the balance left between incoming long stays (or residents) and departures. GROSS is the total CAP on incoming Long Term Stays. One Nation Australia Policy (130k gross), like People First Party Policy (100k gross) will result in a DECREASE in long term visas such visitors. Australian Lobby Group is forwarding a policy of 80,000 Gross. Neither effects farm hands, visitors or short term travelling working visas. Those people LEAVE. The enforcement needs to be increased, right now Labor lets them change visas whilst staying in the country, sneaking them past the recorded NOM numbers. That’s gotta end.
