One Nation One Election – A much needed reform that comes with inherent challenges! I have always supported the idea of One Nation, One Election. Many people don't realize that India actually conducted simultaneous elections for Parliament and most State Assemblies until 1967. So, this isn't a new concept,...

We will see significant improvement in the quality of policymaking, the Nation’s economic progress and even voter turnout if we implement the One Nation One Election rule. We cannot afford the noisy rhetorical distraction of frequent elections because once elections are announced, no work happens on ground except for campaigning. We cannot build a great Nation in fits & starts. For Bharat to mature as a Democracy and to build a long-term vision for the country, One Nation One Election is a must. Let’s make it happen. -Sg

#WATCH | On 'One Nation, One Election', Prashant Kishor says, "If this is done with the correct intentions and there be a transition phase of 4-5 years, then it is in the interest of the country. This was once in effect in the country for 17-18 years. Secondly, in a country as large as India, around 25% of the country votes every year. So, the people running the Govt remain busy in this circle of election. If this is limited to 1-2 times, it will be better. This will cut down expenses and people will have to take a decision only once...If you attempt an overnight transition, there will be issues. The Govt is perhaps bringing a Bill. Let it come. If the Govt has good intentions, then it should happen and it will be good for the country...But it depends on the intentions with which the Govt is bringing it..." (Video: Office of Prashant Kishor)

One Nation has the most detailed policies published out of any party. Just ask the opposition or the government what their immigration policy actually is and you won't get an answer. One Nation is clear. Our policies have always been available at - have a look and tell me what you think. To be clear, I won't just be offering a "coalition" with anyone. If the voters believe in One Nation and choose to send more of us to Parliament, we would be responsible and guarantee supply to the government of the day so that the country keeps running. While that happens, we will keep pushing One Nation policies and checking the details of every single bill for whether it is in the best interest of the country.

#WATCH | Delhi: On One Nation One Election Bill, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh says, "The Congress party firmly, totally, comprehensively reject the one nation, one election bill. We will oppose the introduction. We will demand its reference to a Joint Parliamentary Committee. We believe it's unconstitutional. We believe it goes against the basic structure and it is meant to throttle democracy and accountability in this country. Mallikarjun Kharge had written to former President Ramnath Kovind on 17 January on why the Congress party is objecting to the very idea of one nation, one election. The one nation, one election bill is only the first milestone, the real objective is to bring a new constitution. Amending the Constitution is one thing but bringing a Constitution which is the real objective of the RSS and PM Modi...We know what the RSS thinks about this Constitution. They rejected this Constitution on 30th November 1949 saying that it doesn't derive inspiration from the values of Manusmriti and so on. One nation, one election, is only a first step, the real step is to completely change this Constitution, replace this constitution with a new constitution. That's what we are opposing..."

Put forth BJP's viewpoint on 'One Nation One Election', along with senior party leaders, in front of the High-Level Committee, chaired by former President Shri Ram Nath Kovind Ji. BJP fully supports the concept of 'One Nation One Election'. We highlighted that the elections being held at various levels and at different times affect administration and good governance, put a financial burden on the government and the parties, and also involve large-scale deployments of security forces and administrative personnel, hampering their regular functioning. We have recommended that changes be made to the Representation of the People Act through consensus, and there should be one photo ID card and one voters' list, valid for elections at all levels.

This week I addressed the major national news channels with all 4 of my Federal One Nation colleagues for the first time. I am humbled by the increased support for One Nation and I know the work has only just begun to prove we are worthy of your support. At the same time, I am banned from attending Parliament on your behalf on the orders of Liberals, Nationals, Labor and Greens. Australia is in desperate need of political leadership. The country needs politicians who are principled, who believe in putting Australians first, and will stand up for what is right - even when it’s not ‘politically correct’. The people have been crushed by decades of Labor and Coalition governments making life harder at every step. One Nation represents hope for a change away from this track record of managed decline. We believe Australia can be an incredible country and has enormous potential. It just takes the political will to make decisions in Australia’s interests first.

Hon’ble MP Shri Abhishek Banerjee raised a crucial point: when Election Commission of India holds elections in eight phases in just one state, how do they expect to manage simultaneous elections across the entire country? The real reason behind One Nation, One Election is evading accountability. Elections every two years keep the ruling party on its toes, forcing them to answer for their failures. And this is exactly what BJP is averse to!

VIDEO | Reacting to Congress leader P Chidambaram's opposition to One Nation, One Election, Andhra Pradesh BJP spokesperson Yamini Sharma says, "It is highly ironic to hear that Chidambaram called one nation one election as a monstrous idea. What is monstrous?... He is forgetting his own past, his own party's past, as we all know that under the Jawaharlal Nehru's ruling, India from 1951 till 1967 had gone and has conducted one nation one election like four consecutive times. So, this is the history from their own party. And even now Congress and Chidambaram, they want our nation not to get progressed because the idea of conducting one nation one election again is to save thousands of crores of public money, public taxes and also to make sure that the nation progress continuously without any disruption..." #OneNationOneElection #PChidambaram

Time to out myself, time to come out of the Closet, I can’t hide it any more….i’m fully in the camp of Rupert Lowe MP and Restore Britain . I’ve read everything published over recent days and can’t find a single word I disagree with. Does that mean they will win, no of course not. I also have to be honest and say I’m also very much a fan of Advance UK and Ben Habib particularly after meeting some outstanding people at their conference last week. So why them and not Reform UK ? Simply because I think Reform (understandably) are trying to be too centrist and my concern is they will go weak on issues around immigration, nationality and Islam. Big for sake of clarity, if it comes to a choice of Reform winning or another Labour/Green/Libdem government then of course I’d 100% prefer Reform. The next election will be THE most critical in British history and it’s vital that it is one of Restore/Advance/Reform or an alliance of some of them.
