that’s actually pretty interesting coming from someone who worked on rdr2 if it’s really using some kind of live particle system, that’s a big step up curious how it holds up in actual gameplay tho

The snow is amazing too. Not just footprints, but also if you roll in it, you see a subtle pattern of the ground underneath. Fighting enemies, you’ll see muddy streaks in the snow where they’re pushed back or slide

They actually confirmed that they used “live particle system”. There’s even a video that explains it

It looks they use a pre-baked shallow water simulation. It’ll become more and more common in games (look at the Fluid Flux plugin for UE5).

What about the other criticisms he had like the overly yellow grass and the flat lighting that happens when the game goes into dusk?

I mean its an PS5 game hardware compare to PS4 but still the water animations in RDR 2 looks pretty well on PS4 but what i love comparing RDR 2 with Horizon Forbidden West is that the clouds are well realistic compare to HFW and Guerrilla needed on PS5 to work on Burning Shorts

what? Isn't it just a flowmap? Am I missing something? They have some amazing effects especially for the water washing on the rocks on the seaside etc, but on that video I only see flowmaps..?

their "live particle water" is nothing groundbreaking, but they did a great job implementing it. id love to cast a line into that river :p
