One of the most disappointing developments in modern Sikh history is the move away from Traditional Stringed instruments towards the Vaaja. All Kirtan is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but there’s just something else about the way Kirtan in the way it was intended.

There is a certain melody that is gained from stringed instruments. The vaaja is said to be a development from the British to Christianise Sikhi like the organs they have in churches.

A German instrument

that sounds beautiful man, isn't the frequency of stringed instruments meant to linked to the heart of something Naamdhari still practise this way of kirtan don't they, my naamdhari mate teaches this instrument and performed are the smaagam in northolt a few months back

Yeh exactly that - DilRubhaa I think even more beautiful than this is the Taus - which I think Guru Gobind Singh Ji used to play.

Absolutely beautiful! This could have been inside the darbar of the 10th master or even Maharaja Ranjit Singh. NB Harmonium (Vaja) was introduced to the Sikhs by the British.

Amazing !

you are not wrong but it takes years practice to master vaaja and a more than that for tanti saaj, if you feel we lost something then you should learn and motivate other to do the same
