One of the most impressive things I've ever seen, just completely incomprehensible, is Alex Honnold doing this famous section of El Capitan ("The Boulder Problem") during his free solo. It's ~V7 difficulty, ~2000 feet in the air. The holds are so tiny. Makes me sweat watching it.

Alex Honnold made history when he climbed Taipei 101 in Taiwan on January 25, 2026. Taipei 101 is 508 meters tall and has 101 floors. Honnold climbed all the way to the top of the building and its spire in about 1 hour and 31 minutes. He did the climb free solo, meaning he used no ropes or harness for protection. The climb was broadcast live on Netflix as “Skyscraper Live,” and thousands of people watched. Honnold’s climb was an incredible feat of strength, focus, and courage and was described as the highest urban free-solo climb in history. I’ve been a fan of Alex Honnold since he climbed El Capitan in Yosemite. His free solo climb in 2017 was one of the most incredible climbing achievements ever. I have also hiked Half Dome, so I have a special love for Yosemite. Knowing the beauty and scale of Yosemite makes Honnold’s climb of El Capitan even more amazing to me.
