The caretaker of his family in a genocide and unable to walk. Sameeh from Jenan Saba Camp in Khan Younis reached out to The Sameer Project asking to share his struggle. Support now: A person with disability in a genocide is extremely difficult as there are no accessible toilets, no pavements, no proper transport, and more challenges. The pediatric department at Nasser Hospital requested our help!! Support: There is a huge influx of patients at the hospital in Khan Younis due to displacements from the North and the number of malnourished and sick babies being born daily. In a 24 hour period, the pediatric ward had 1,000 patients visit with is 10x the usual number. Mothers, babies, children are sprawled out on the hospital floor because of the overcrowding. The Sameer Project responded by delivering 30 mattresses so that the huge number of cases have somewhere to rest and recover. Each mattress cost $75, with the total coming to $2,239 after 11% commission. We are always glad to be able to support the hospitals that are working so hard to take care of patients. Children who are malnutritioned are relying on small packets of nutritional supplement nut butter for caloric intake. This is also true for older teens and young adults who have disabilities and cannot chew or digest food. The Sameer Project recently visited brothers Mahmoud and Mohammad for the second time to bring them life saving nutrients. Both have cognitive and physical disabilities and their mother is all alone to care for them. She cannot provide the food they need and the help they require. We provided the family with a vegetable parcel for $100 including 1 kilo of tomatoes 1 kilo of molokhia, 1 ounce of okra, 1 kilo of eggplant, and 1 kilo of zucchini. We also provided them with the nutritional supplement nut butter, each 2 tablespoon packet cost $2-$3 per packet depending on the number of calories (red is more caloric, green is less caloric). Support special cases: water distribution teams would see Wissam struggling to fill containers of water. Like other kids he waits in line for hours to bring drinking water back home, unlike other kids he does this by crawling through the dirt on his knees due to a deformity of his legs that he was born with. We asked Wissam’s father how we can help, and it turns out that he does not get much support. The Sameer Project team returned with everything his father asked for and some additional treats for Wissam. We supplied a large thick winter blanket, a mattress and pillow, a large food parcel with sweets and treats, and clothing for Wissam. The total including 11% commission fees was $205. We have shared the struggles of Ibrahim who is living with pemphigus vulgaris, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes painful blisters and open sores across his skin. Every movement is a battle with pain. In Gaza, the treatment he needs is extremely limited. If Ibrahim is not hospitalized, he cannot receive the medication that keeps his condition from flaring up out of control. He wants to be in his tent, with his children, receiving care from his family. And what he really wants and what he really needs urgently is treatment abroad. Until that becomes possible, The Sameer Project will support him with medication to aid him with his daily battle. On March 4 we provided Ibrahim with a week’s worth of medication and ointments and a hygiene kit for a total of $182 after commission. This is one of the most expensive medical cases we have taken on since he will need the treatment weekly, and we cannot do it alone.
