Dr. Mohler, as a Christian, I do not see the benefit of adding a reference to Christianity to the Constitution. In fact I think it would be counterproductive. Singling out one faith, belief in which was fundamental to our founding, nevertheless risks alienating a great many of "the People". The Declaration does a good job of recognizing our dependence on the Lord, and in fact, the Preamble also acknowledges Him, subtly, when referring to the Blessings of Liberty. Who can bless this country and us other than the Lord?

There's no reason to say it in the Constitution. If the people are Christian, acknowledging it is unnecessary. If they are not, no written law will change their faith.

While our nation was built upon Judeo-Christian principles, it was explicitly established as non-denominational. Not by accident, but by design

Our Declaration of Independence acknowledges Christianity--at least the language used would've been understood as explicitly Christian at the time of writing. Our Founding Fathers understood the importance of Christianity as the complementary pillar that needed to go with the Constitution in order for our country to be successful. Obviously, they did not want a theocracy in as much as there were many diverse branches of Christianity in the colonies at that time. They had seen what kind of sectarian trouble instituting state churches had caused in Europe. Nevertheless, they expected a Christian people to go hand in hand with the new Constitution.

Because the constitution is of the people, by the people, and for the people. I don't see how you partner that with a belief system that is built entirely around God. I don't want the government interfering with my belief system.

I guess the founders just weren't as wise as you are. They apparently expected Christ to rule in the hearts of His people rather than by the coercive violence of the State.

Well said! I think the framers were perhaps a bit reticent because they had seen the evil and abuses of theocracy. However, they were very clear on intelligent design in natural law as essential in a flourishing social order. Teaching that history today, even in public schools, does not make us a theocracy or violate the Establishment Clause. It is just history class.

If you take a look at all the state constitutions at or around 1776, you will see that Christianity was either implicitly or explicitly assumed. It is the CHANGES to those state charters over time that began the rot.
