Exactly! When I sent out a casting call for my first comic series, "Verion Keller's Vampire Killers". I sent out the list and images of all the female characters the VA's could audition for, and all of them avoided Yolanda Briggs. We have gotten so unhinged that people are afraid to voice characters if they aren't the correct color for them. This delayed the promotional project because I had to spend days hoping someone could voice her, and at the last moment, a Sista came in to the rescue. I don't care what color you are, I have casted Black VA's to voice White characters and even the opposite. This character gave me so much backlash from that pocket community who demands you represent blackness according to their idea of what Blackness means. Apparently Piccolo can be called Black. - Knuckles can be called Black. - Yoruichi gets called Black. - Piccolo is recognized as black. But when I, an actual Black creator, tell people that Dr. Yolanda Briggs is a Black woman in MY comic universe… suddenly I’m wrong. No one is forcing anyone to be African or Black. We all know that some Somalis view black skin as a mark of enslavement to Arabs due to the Arab slave trade, so they tend to claim they are not Black.

Black Americans appear to show signs of deep inferiority complex toward Dominicans. This Black man want to fight a Dominican man because he said he wasn’t Black as in ethnicity of Black American. Blacks🇺🇸 like Haitians want proximity to Hispanic Dominicans given that they are Mixed with mostly European ancestry on average. Blacks feel that Dominicans are superior to them which is why they feel offended when Dominicans reject them & don’t let them claim them as “black”. Blacks look up to Latino Dominicans as the better version of themselves. You don’t get so enraged if someone doesn’t want to be part of your group unless you already hate being part of that group but cannot scape it. Blacks feel they are less than and they see hope in Hispanic Dominicans as a people that can represent them as “beautiful black people”. 🇩🇴👇

I’ve come to realize that it doesn’t matter if a black man is married to a black or white woman. If black people don’t want to hear what you have to say, they will find a justification. “You’re too conservative. You’re too Christian. You’re too something.” There’s a mental Olympics around race that black people have to go through, and it can compromise what we say or do.

Because in their framework, Blackness comes with mandatory politics attached. White liberals fund the social justice movements. Tell Black women their men are dangerous. Push abortion as the number one civil rights issue of the day — then go home to their husbands and children. The same life they’re telling Black women they shouldn’t want. Black people are hip to the scam now. “You’re not going to be able to shame Black people into compliance. You’re not going to be able to disrespect them to the point where they’re so hurt by your lack of approval that they’re going to start advocating for their own replacement.” The hard bigotry of low expectations kept Black communities stagnant for decades. History matters but it should be a mindset trap. "We have a lot of black leaders who are stuck in the past." "They want to blame white people for everything. Every shortcoming they want to blame on the white man." "We have to move forward man." "Today's white folks don't have nothing to do with that." "Majority of white people are not racist." He isn't wrong. Black leaders, specifically black liberals are NOT helping the black community.

When I say that a specific group wants me to create black stories and characters that represent them. They typically mean creating stereotypical hood culture while downplaying my own creations at Venus Orion Comics. I was told that my art caters to Asian people and I'll never be accepted by them. Who said I am looking for acceptance from anyone? I create out of passion, so even if no one ever embraces my work, I will continue to create because I love it! When I create stories and worlds, I create them for myself. I don't create them with an audience in mind. I allow the audience to decide whether they resonate with it.
