One wrong blade = millions gone😦

Gas turbine blades are deceptively small but hugely complex, each blade must endure over 1500°C, extreme centrifugal forces, and corrosive combustion gases for tens of thousands of hours. Manufacturers use single-crystal superalloys, thermal barrier coatings, and precision cooling channels to prevent failure. That’s why a single utility-scale turbine can cost $30–50 million, with blades accounting for hundreds of thousands each.

I work at Mitsubishi power. Im in inspection. Each blade has been weighed and balanced with strict tolerances. They dont have to worry about that during installation. Also each blade has a serial number so they know where it goes in an engine

lol I love how it’s showing a Gas turbine (much like you would see in a power plant) and then during the testing it’s a jet engine! Miss Information and two totally different systems and industries! This feel like something that someone in administration would post!

I worked in aerospace. They also do something called final trimming whereby they balance the whole assembly. So any "error" is identified before running.

Nope. Balancing will perform after that procedure

I used to make those. It’s called a blisk. Blades with a pine tree shaped root mounted on a disc. Blade/Disc = blisk

That's a steam turbine.

Misleading. The assembly is that of a Gas turbine for powerplant while testing shows jet engine. There's a huge difference between the two.The margin for error is much higher in Power plant turbines.

That’s not how an engine might fail! It would take more than one to fail the whole engine

Watched a customer find an issue with a large 48" inconel ring for a jet engine part the OEM had missed. OEM shopped out production and my customer found an deviation between their print and model when they tried rejecting his first 2 parts. QC at the OEM was completely fired.

Elon is reviewing whether SpaceX and Tesla should be making the blades as they are the limiting factor on gas turbines to power data centres.

Cool. Elon Musk was talking about this in his most recent pod with @dwarkesh_sp The video makes it a bit clearer

Centripetal force, not centrifugal.

It’s pronounced sen-trif-acal force.

All so a kettle can make electricity. Have we really advanced from the industrial revolution? Steam is still our primary source of power for most industries and our homes. The technology exists for use to generate our own clean power at home but it is withheld by governments.

I can’t imagine how much brain power be needs to build such complexities of an engine 🤩

More than Turbo it’s a compressor which heats (compresses) air, to a hot enough to burn jet fuel

And they make far less $ than software "engineers".

And yet they use hamers to instal them😁

Hope they get paid equivalently

That’s not how it works… the blades are all the same. The rotor stages are ballenced.

👋👋👋👋👋

terlihat bagus

add some of them and its ok.

Impressive and interesting!

Wow 😃

@JohannesMathake That's too much pressure for me 😔

I propose utilizing a more robust *BFH approach to significantly expedite the process. Our customers value efficiency, particularly when it comes to departures.🤌 TedAir

😃😃😃

Probably should import some Africans to build them haha

Incrível

Zero wrong blade = 0 gone.

How did someone get to invent this?🤔

Turbine work must be perfect.

Nop , only need balance
