That hole is an oil port. The one you blocked with an aluminum can shim. No lube to crank means heat. Heat means premature failure.

Very /very / very bad idea. A soft material is a liner on bearing shells. replacing with new bearing shells for only a few dollars is the proper repair. Like shown puts hard material against the cramk shaft and could ruin it so needing an expensinv Part like a crank sgaf

What about the oil hole ?? The bearing will gall and fail , you covered up the hole, it’s there for a reason…

Clamping the con rod with no soft jaws will mark the rod and break the forged integrity and it will break as a result.
