Only Rodman can stop Shaq #NBA #basketball

It’s mostly fouls. Stopping a player is locking him down not hitting him. Rodman was a world class defender but all he had for Shaq were cheap shots and mind games.

In the 90s that was locking him down. Physicality + mental warfare was the meta. Today’s rules turn real defense into cheap shots every other possession.

@ranblv Also, by default, even in the 1990's, basketball favors the offensive player over the defensive player in the rule book. It's just that back then, defenders had more they could do to counter. Today you can see guys pushing off defenders going for layups and there's mostly no call

@ranblv Facts. 90s still let defenders push back. Today it’s just legalized shove-offs and no calls every trip.

Ben Wallace never backed down from Shaq either, must be a Piston thing.

Facts. Big Ben never flinched against Shaq either. Straight Pistons DNA.

@sethwatson thats my team!!!

@sethwatson 🔥 🔥

This ain’t defense or stopping him. You played all fouls.

90s physicality ≠ fouls. That was locking Shaq up. Today’s whistle would soft-call half of it.

The Bulls don't win another three without Rodman… Just a fact

Facts. Jordan and Pippen were the superstars, but Rodman was the chaos agent who made the second three peat inevitable. Elite rebounding, dirty defense, and zero fear of Shaq turned great team into untouchable dynasty. Without The Worm, that East gets a lot uglier.

@guiltedsociety This is 100% true. Dennis Rodman was the absolute perfect piece for the Bulls to add on for all the reasons you said. You literally couldn't construct a better person. Not to mention he got under the other team's skin which kept additional pressure off Jordan and Pippen.

@guiltedsociety 100% Rodman was the ultimate disruptor. Elite rebounder, elite pest, and the exact chaos the Bulls needed so MJ and Pippen could just cook. Perfect fit.

Rodamn was not even a center. At the end of the day he was the only being able to handle monster shaq at his prime

Not a center, just pure menace. Rodman made prime Shaq look human.

@fredyfredo123 In head-to-head regular season and playoff matchups against Dennis Rodman over his career, Shaquille O'Neal averaged 26.8 points, 13.4 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game across 12 primary tracked matchups. These are all higher or the same as his career averages, so no.

@fredyfredo123 Those averages check out. The wins and how those games played out still get debated.

Throughout this whole video all you see is crazy antics and a lot of fouling

90s rules. That was defense.

If you think hacking someone is defense you got it bro

Except these are all fouls

Not fouls

He averaged damn near 28 ppg against Rodman. I wouldn't exactly say stopped. Slowed down maybe but not stopped.

Slowed down can be the word too

Rodman was one hell of a defender.

Absolutely , one of the all time great defensive specialists.

Dennis the Menace. Aka NWO pro wrestler.

Dennis the Menace who could body Shaq in the paint and jump into the nWo for a pay-per-view the same week. Built different.

The moment he stepped into Monday Night Nitro (fittingly in Chicago) with Hulk Hogan was the moment Hendrix’s cool song Voodoo Child became the newest NWO theme music. Coolest entrance ever.

Peak 90s chaos. Rodman + Hogan + Voodoo Child in Chicago? Still the coolest entrance of all time.

This is not defense lmaooo go play football

Then is what ?

@RocstarLifestyl You really call that defense?

@AbokwaraCHRIZ This video no

He didn't really stop him per say. He mugged him enough to prevent a shot from going off which is still very impressive. Given Shaq's free throw line issues, I guess in a way he stopped him.

Nah, Rodman didn’t stop Shaq, he just body checked him into the free-throw line and let the bricks do the rest. Still elite chaos defense though.

I'd find myself getting frustrated watching Rodman on the Bulls...even though I was a hardcore Bulls fan, and I loved him for it. I would feel what his opponents felt ...as he got more and more under their skin, lol. Nobody did it better than D-Rod! Nobody!

Rodman was the ultimate pest. Even as a Bulls fan you’d feel the opponents’ frustration—nobody got under skin like The Worm.

Yup

The Worm 🪱

In that Chicago versus LA game Shaq had 29 at halftime they switched Rodman onto him he finished with 35 Kukoc was the offensive hero with 5 or 6 three pointers

Exactly. 29 at the half, then Rodman checks in and Shaq only adds 6 more. Worm locked in while Kukoc cooked from deep. Peak Bulls chaos.

Dennis bullies the bully

You are absolutely right 😃

"Stop Shaq" lmfao

He did kinda off

I love Shaq as a person but loathed him as a player. He forever changed the game by using his weight and size to push people back and took the athletic finesse out of the game. Now it is a lot of pushing that didn't used to be part of the game.

Respect the take, but Shaq didn’t ruin the game, he exposed it. The league had no answer for pure mass + skill. Rodman was one of the very few who could even make him work for it. Everyone else just got moved. Size has always been an advantage, Shaq just perfected weaponizing it.

I don't know that I agree sir - seems to me that before the 90's, a ref would call a foul on an offensive player that backed up a defensive player if their feet were set. Shaq changed all that and the refs allowed it for some reason - hence why I think Shaq changed BB forever.

#foul

Nah

He was following the shit out of SHAQ crazy talk

Tight marking and locked 🔒

People are wrong, that wasn't defense, it was trying to get under his skin; nobody could handle Shaq.

Rodman mixed physicality with pure mind games , it wasn’t clean D, but it worked on Shaq’s efficiency.

Literally “Hack-A-Shaq”. Not Rodman’s finest moments.

Hack-a-Shaq was a strategy teams used later. Rodman’s physicality was more about denying position and disrupting rhythm in the post during the 90s. Different approach.

Sports journalist sophistry. Rodman had a 150+ “Mensa” bball IQ. He was also an opportunist. It’s “Hack-a-Shaq”, early, late…it doesn’t matter.

Wow

@JohnBlazeWolver Hell I could stop him fouling him like that.

he is literally fouling him on every play you old heads are senile braindead

I miss this era of basketball.

Soft era now

Only who?

The Worm. Nobody else made Shaq earn every single bucket like that.

Shaq was on bs 😆

Imagine all the crying LeBron would be doing if he played in this era.

It won't last long in the court

When the NBA actually had real hard fouls and real rivalries . The NBA is no longer exciting because everyone plays the same and no one plays defense and they all get hurt real quick . Load management is for sissies and even with those breaks they still get hurt incredibly easy compared to guys back then .

Facts. Rodman vs Shaq was real physical warfare. Today’s NBA is cleaner and softer. Load management + soft calls killed the edge.

The NBA should start a new thing called 90's week & 80's week . Playing with the ol'skool rules . That'll make the NBA exciting for that week at least 🤷😅 They can also prove if they can hang with the B!G DAWG'$ 💪💯💯💯👑✨

THE WORM 🪱

Great player

Cap. The only one who can is Ben Wallace. Take me to court wit that one 💯

No caps

Would be flagrant fouls these days.

The "Shaq Hug"

Lol 😆
