And yet when he was in AWA they wouldn't let him beat Greg Gagne. This shows how NJPW were forward thinking about creating a new monster heel, where, AWA weren't, and thus eventually died.

Leon White wasn't the first choice for the Vader gimmick. That was Sid Vicious. He wasn't their second choice either; that was the Ultimate Warrior. Leon was actually set to debut for New Japan rival All Japan, but NJPW worked out a deal and snatched him away for themselves

I had been in Japan about 2 weeks before for the tag team tournament and there was huge anticipation for Inoki & Choshu. As great of an attraction as Vader ended up being, involving the comedian ended up being a HORRIBLE idea.

Vader is so thin there he almost looks like one of the Road Warriors except Leon had a little less muscle.

They were more upset about the bait and switch about losing a Choshu vs Inoki match they paid for than anything else. They course corrected mid show and did it after all but it was short, brutal, and one-sided. Then came Vader vs Inoki. By that point the fans were already mad.

On this day, the main event was scheduled to be a match between Inoki and Choshu. However, Takeshi Kitano, a famous foreign movie director, appeared and barged in, saying, ``Takeshi, fight Vader from the Pro-Wrestling Corps!'' Comedian Takeshi Kitano intervenes, and the customers who were looking forward to the Inoki vs. Choshu match are dissatisfied. In the match, the Emperor Inoki lost to the unknown Vader, and the audience got angry and a riot broke out. An angry customer who didn't leave even after an hour after the game. I thought Inoki was going to come out and apologize, but he said, "Thank you, everyone," and the customers got even more angry and rioted.
