I understand the concerns & some people will think I'm insensitive, but some struggles are there to shape people. We risk prematurely exposing some people to a life that'll only mess them up. Is she lacking school fees? That's the only thing I feel people can genuinely step in & makes sense. Every Ugandan deserves a chance at learning upto high school, at least. This young girl is learning about real life, managing a business & getting sharpened to care for herself. You don't wanna mess up something like that by making her believe in getting handouts from strangers. Community/government should just come up with several initiatives that support the education & well being of such kids. It's much better than selecting a single kid & showering him or her with gifts. Initiative that make a kid believe he/she earned it are better & more uplifting. Pity based handouts are counterproductive in most cases. It creates a population tuned to be dependent on others.
