They used to show us the F-14 mishap video in KC-10 training. 1.2 seconds from contact to #2 engine going boom. (btw, the video is mirrored). Still excellent video though!

Yup! Specifically that clip of the AWACS! I worked flight control avionics on the AWACS and that specific incident was caused by a bad Air Data computer which caused the altitude hold to disengage.

Nope. We kept our shit to under 3.0 hours to prevent this fuckery!

There is some real pucker factor going on. I crewed a Black Hawk and did several mid-air refuels the worst ones are at night. If you get too far to the side the vortices coming off the planes wingtips can flip you over.

Somebody turned off the AFCS at the wrong time.

I've been aboard both Rotary and fixed wing aircraft during midair refueling and can't recall any mishaps
