They used to show us the F-14 mishap video in KC-10 training. 1.2 seconds from contact to #2 engine going boom. (btw, the video is mirrored). Still excellent video though!

Yup! Specifically that clip of the AWACS! I worked flight control avionics on the AWACS and that specific incident was caused by a bad Air Data computer which caused the altitude hold to disengage.

There is some real pucker factor going on. I crewed a Black Hawk and did several mid-air refuels the worst ones are at night. If you get too far to the side the vortices coming off the planes wingtips can flip you over.
